AOA.... Im facing a prblm since long time but never discussed it but today it made me to discuss...Occasionally, long after the engine has been turned off, I hear a humming noise that sounds like BVVVVVVVVVV something turns ON and goes OFF. The noise occurs about once every 0.5-1 minutes and lasts about 5 seconds at the most. Today it was making a noise again and believe me till NOW i was thinking that my car is haunted , but aftr searching it on GOOGLE i came to know that lots of people have this kind of prblm but im unable to find any appropriate reason. Its nt happening everyday like it happend today aftr 1.5 months and last time it happend just once but today it happnd about 6times with the interval of 5sec, it starts loudly and fades away. NEED help...

Same noise with my civic as well. I checked the handbrake if its losing its grip, disconnected the battery, emptied the patrol tank, even checked for a cat underneath but nothing. There is no continuaty, some times it sounds 2-3 times in an hour, sometimes nothing for days. Its quiet scary when someone pass by it in night and hear it.
The conclusion I came to is that its actually haunted :o But don't worry, the ghosts stay only for a couple of months, then they move to another location, besides they provide added security!

Brother I also have Civic 2005 and was facing same problem, but after discussion with my mechanic I came to know that this voice actually comes from the fuel tank during outflow of Gas through a valve. This model has valve for outflow of extra Gas from fuel tank so nothing to worry about </SPAN></SPAN>:slight_smile:

Understand coz it just gets started for a few seconds, its like something turns on with a scary voice and within 3 to 5 seconds it fades away, its like exhaust fan turns in with a very low speed its voice seems like that.

@parkroyale today someone told me that he had 2003 model civic and he also noticed this type of sound coming out of his car...

@zeecom yup u r right, its really very scary specially when it starts at night, its a really v bad experience yo hear it, & the worst is that when it goes off for a long time like mine was silent for 1.5 months and yeaterday it again started, dnt knw why it takes that much long time to repeat it, but i think u r right the ghosts move away to anyothr location & return haha..

your mechanic might be very right, there is an evaporator in the fuel tank that collects the hydrocarbons emitted from the fuel and sends its to the engine to be used as fuel. But how come it work with the engine off?

I used to scare my cozins by parking my mamos car near there rooms window at night...:p..it does put people in a stage of weirdness....that is the gas flow bro leave the cap open and let it breadth this.. came in models from 2002 to 2004..

@arsal2002 bro i never imagined that the valve is the reason behind but i cn say ur mechanic is right but anothr question which comes in my mind that i never small any gaseous type thing aftr this voice as its standing in my garrage and why these gases r being released with different intervals like sometime it happens within days and sometimes aftr a month or two with ignition off.
