Day 2: Excited as one should be, I took the car out for a few spins following the routine family tour. Just to get a feel of the gears and the power of this mammoth 1488cc euro engine that has been bestowed upon us in a decently mid sized sedan, I went on the usual new ride pilgrimage Canal, Cantt, DHA, ring road etc. To my surprise having driven a brand new city for 2 months, this baby just wanted to let loose. From this day onwards there are only two fuel stations I opted to go to, both being of Total and both being company operated, for hi-octane.
My thumb rule for selecting the right fuel pump:
- Should be company operated
- The fuel stations are operated in two to three business models. Important to understand this
- One kind is the one operated by a third party on royalty (never go there)
- Second is the one which has two portions, the tuck shop and property are operated by the company and the fueling stations are operated by a third party (on thaika) best to avoid that but they usually are better then the previous one.
- Third, the sweet one, is the fuel pump where the tuck shop and the fueling stations are both company operated.
The two fuel pumps I choose for myself are both in and about Johar Town, Lahore. One is next to the the LDA office (best fuel in Lahore) Second one is the one nearby Alfateh on Nazria - e - Pakistan boulevard just off canal road near thokar.
Back home I decided to have a close inspection of the car, the showroom sadly didnât give me the âapplied for registration platesâ so I used ones given to my by a friend who has a showroom. Anyways, I looked very closely while holding a light to everything on the surface of the car.
Issue 1: Paint
I cannot even begin to tell you how unlucky I am to find out first hand that in Pakistan the car assembly plants canât do a good job with the paint. My one extremely solid advise to everyone would be to go for white or silver (Barray theek hi kehtay thay). I bought space grey but its all about your personal choice. The bonnet colour doesnât match the body, the bumpers donât match anything the roof doesnât match the rest of the car. There are paint dots almost 6 of them all over the cars. You can feel them while rubbing your finger.
Issue 2: Roof Poshish
If you have been inside an alsvin you would know that the roof inside of the car is of some cloth like substance but very high quality fine. I noticed three places between the sunwisers that there is lint protruding from the surface. To this day I donât know how that couldâve happened.
Issue 3: Scuff Marks
Remember those scuff marks mentioned in the first post, there were more. So imagine someone is standing next to your car with a hand on your A and C pillars, then imagine they have 15 rings on their fingers, now imagine the rest. Those marks were on three of the 4 pillars of the car. I tried scratch out and compound but was only able to get rid of 50% of it.
Issue 4: Mild sound Near the front passenger side
When I was driving at around 10 to 20 km/h there was a sound of some loosely fitted object coming from the front passenger side of the car. The sound was audible but very low. You really had to dim down all the noises to hear it. But it was there, and to a person like me it was deafening. After 3 inspections I found out what it was and had it sorted. More on that when I write about the inspections.
That sums up Day 2 for me, I will not list down all 380 some days here but I will be writing daily In Sha Allah and will include all significant events here. Like I said, a mountain of useful information to come such as; car care equipment, washing techniques, which places to go for car wash and installed accessories and their feedback.
Side Note: Fellow car enthusiasts, I sincerely apologise for being aloof and today upon realising that I didât get any notifications on the post, logged in and found out the interest on this topic. I assure you I will try my absolute best to update it daily barring the mountain of information I want to share with the community. My absence was purely because of my work and the holy month of Ramadan. Hope all of you who are fasting are having a great month and wish you all a delightful Eid to come.
