White smoke from Exhaust on cold start

Plugs: NGK G power Platinum
Oil: Liqui Moly 20W50 Mos II

My car is producing white smoke on cold startups and rpm goes really down for a second then it comes back to normal. MY mechanic said that it is head gasket problem and it needs an overhaul. I searched on the internet and it is really head gasket problem but the reason I am posting here that I can trust Pakwheels more than I will tust a mechanic no matter how famous he is. So can you people help me with that? And what will it cost me? Mechanic said that Head is weak and overhaul may take around 20k max. I also saw the head gasket and I was wondering if I can do it my self?

You can't do head gasket or overhauling job yourself if you have no experience with it before. It involves changing worn out parts, lathe work, proper torquing head bolts etc. So, the best way is to get it done by an experienced well reputed mechanic. Secondly, if white smoke lasts for few seconds, that could be due to the combustion that produces water. Weak head gasket will make mixing of coolant and engine oil resulting in dirty engine oil with odd smell or presence of oil in radiator plus loss of compression. Get your engine checked from some other mechanic as well what he says.

White if your coolant gets burned then its head gasket
blue if your oil gets burned may be head gasket or weak valves

Does your car reduces radator coonant ? does your car reduces engine oil what color is your engine oil is it milkey

No you cant do overhauling job yourself. Whitish blue smoke at start usually means worn out valve seals. If your car does not reduce oil then no need to wory alot....keep using the car then then go for overhauling job only once..if it reduces oil too then it is already time for overhaul as you are already using very thick 20W50 oil....

rpm dropping and then getting back to normal means a stuck up IACV! throttle body service karwalo idle dropping ka masla toh theek ho jaiga!

I got it checked with another mechanic and I explained him the whole situation then he gave full acceleration in idle state and the car produced some smoke. He said that piston rings and valve seals need to be changed otherwise everything else is OK and no need to worry. He gave me estimate of 8-10k with all the equipments and labour. His name is Shoaib from Jamshed road adjacent to lal masjid karachi if anyone is wondering

if it is head gasket,the smoke wont just go away,it would be a continuous smoke stream.if it comes on startup and vanishes after a while,it means valve are worn out..head gasket could be checked by oil color too.if water is getting mixed with oil,its sure shot head gasket.also even on cold start,with radiator cap removed,if water jumps out ,head gasket is done!
and dont just listen to mechanics because you trust them,ask questions.my friend got ripped by his so called loyal mechanic.his cuore was showing signs of head gasket failure.he went to mechanic,when he opened head,he said rings bhi weak hain,ye bhi kara laen.gari k front shock absorbers bhi weak hain,ye bhi kara laen and end up with an expense of 20k..i know his car and drive it often(he visits me every weekend). his car was having no problem on rings,was giving mileage of about 15 kms per lit or petrol.no power loss and no smoke even on highest revs.and shock absorbers were fine.car is 2009 model..i scolded him alot for presenting his pocket to a thief !
