When will Active Tax Payer list be issued for tax year 2017-2018?

When will Active Tax Payer list be issued for tax year 2017-2018? I filed my returns for the first time in September 2018, for the 2017-2018 financial year. My status is still 'inactive'. I am told by the tax consultant that my status will become active once the new list for the year 2017-2018 is issued. Is that true? Return filed in September and still inactive status.

Your status will become as Active, when you will file tax returns for the FY: 2018-2019 was well. To be an active filer and have your name in ATPL, you need to have your returns filed for at least 2 consecutive years and then regularly, otherwise if you miss some year(s), your status will again change to inactive.

I think it's not true and your tax consultant is not well versed or updated. He is just giving you "tassallis". ATPL is updated after every 1-2 weeks and then published accordingly.

It's my personal experience that your name is published in ATPL when you file for at least 2 consecutive years, and then regularly, without any gaps.

Yes - you need to file two consecutive years income tax returns and your name will appear in ATL, which is updated every weekend.

You will be active if your returns have been filed for two consecutive years...even if u filed for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 on a sunday evening...you will be a filer next day

I missed to file tax return last year but i have filed it for 2017-2018 and my status is still inactive. I have talked to a guy and he told me that it would change on 1st March and wait till then or you can file previous year return to become a filer.

But he may face fine / penalty for filing late returns of FY: 2016-2017, that's why I did not mention that Juggart!

Actually I had received fine / penalty notice of PKR 20,000 in last quarter of 2018, for filing returns late, of some previous FY. But afterwards, fortunately, it got settled automatically for salaried persons (and I am salaried person).

@basitali87 @ashbal So I will keep getting charged tax on bank transactions and can't avail tax filer benefits until I have filed for two consecutive years? That's sad.

Yes. Unless / until your name is not in the ATPL, you will be charged with all the duties / taxes as are for Non-Filers.

I think you guys have incorrect or outdated information. Looks like FBR is now updating the list on yearly basis and not for those only who have filed for two consecutive years. The list was updated on 1st March, I think, and my status now shows to be 'Active'. It was 'In Active' before 1st March. So I guess that means I can now avail all filer benefits?

Ok. I get it. Yes, you may be right. I did not know that, since as per my personal experience from recent years, I believed that ATPL is updated after every week or 2, and you can have your name in ATPL when you file for at least 2 consecutive years, and for FY: 2017-2018, both 2016-2017 & 2017-2018 are reqd.

I believe, YES! If your name is there in ATPL and marked as "Active", for sure you can avail all the benefits available to Active Tax payers / Filers.
