Whats it....water from exhaust

PW Experts!!
So far people have been saying a lot about the water droping down tail exhaust pipes of cars especially in winters. Mechanics and people say.....this is sign of a powerful and new engine. What is it actually???
My 97 khyber driven more than 100,000 kms blows out more water and for many kilometers as compared to my 2003 vti, which blows out little water only when it is started in the morning............

same was the prb with me and the same answer i got from my mechanic that this is the sign on power full engine nd me also having older moder mehran ..

@shazi......i had a suzuki jeep......the older it became the more it would blow out water and in the end...it would even start but once started it would damp everything around the exhaust with this water

It is due to heat convection. Hot air coming out of the combustion chamber face sudden cold atmosphere in the exhaust, causing the exhaust gases turn into water vapours(condensation).....Means least oil/carbon emission which is a sign of healthy engine!

My khyber does it more than my civic. Does it mean civic 70k driven has a weaker engine than khyber driven more than 100k...

guys let me try to explain

my FX 83' also spits water in the start

as far as i remember, when hydrocarbons are combusted they produce CO2 and water as byproducts with the power. please someone pick a chemistry book of FSc and confirm it for me

the same water vapours when pass through cold exhuast they are condensed and usually settle down in the 'dholkee'. when you start your engine and race the engine the water sprays out from there. in summer the condensation do not happen

Once combustion happens the product is only CO2 and WATER. So if a good combustion is happening means water should be produced but definitely in the form of vapours which on reacting with colder outside temperature condenses to water.Now if the combustion is not ideal meaning by that the fuel is dirty, tuning is out the car is throwing out un burnt fuel or the engine oil is burning in the cylinders then the by product of combustion is changed and content of moisture is either reduced or eliminated.
So the conclusion is that the engine is HEALTHY if throws water

because burning fuel is a chemical reaction. The gases produced from this reaction are C0 (Carbon Monooxide), CO2(Carbon Dioxide), NO (Nitrous Oxide), H2O(water as steam). So as the steam flows out of the exaust it condenses because of the cold temprature outside. So the more efficient your engine is, the more H20 and C02 from your car and lesser CO and NO. CO2 is a green house case, CO and NO are pollutants.

yes this is a healthy sign. my mehran also gives water although it has done nearly 30 k.
A bolan in our apartment lol, driver neh engine ki puri thara sa mardi thi and the car was lol gone, aab woh beek (sale) hogaye hai, us mein driver sahab subhah ko bhi din ko bhi raat mein bhi CNG per start karte thha aur engine water throw karte thi aur woh gari isi liya sale ki thi ka us ka engine was gone, driver subhab ko jo self martta tha hum saab usi ki awaz sa utthae tha subah mein scool ka liya, likhen afsoos woh gari sale hogaye likhen akre waqt tak us gari sa bhi pannii (water) nikalta tha.. why???

thats not the right way to check exhaust water

suzukis have relatively higher compression ratios which means more heat produced for combustion

did someone mentioned CO (carbon monooxide), yes there is CO also in the exhaust gases but to tell you all the lesser the CO, the better the combustion... so if someone has the CO sensor, put it on the exhasut and tune your car to reduce the CO to minimum, this way you will also help reducing air pollution.

CO is very harmful poisenous gas.
So Guys donot try to smell it
you may have tasted it already, when you smell the pungent smell from the exhaust, its the CO, coz water vapours and CO2 donot have smell

the smell is mainly due to impurities of sulphur etc. in the fuel...

yes as i listen same too.
& i have experience of some cars,i am also agree with this that this water from exhaust is indication of Good Engine (but also with good tuning_of carburetor)
it means your carburetor is functioning properly & you have good engine
but if you touch silencer & it shows black spots inside your exhaust pipe ( although water is coming) then this means that car is properly tuned but engine is not perfect
so with water ,also check what is color of end of your exhaust pipe
may be we can say
if white then engine good
if black engine problem

that black thing u r talking abt i think even in new cars u find that black thing deposited....
