What is wrong with the Suzuki Liana? Why is it so damn cheap despite having a 1300cc engine? How much does it cost to repair its common problems?

the question is not how much it costs to repair its common problems but how common do the problems become.

Haven't kept a Liana but I have a suzuki alto and the number of times plastic parts break, is just outrageous. I mean if the parts were expensive it would be a nightmare to maintain these Suzukis.

The engine of the Liana is the same as swift 1.3 so in terms of that its reliable enough. but other than that many people just avoid buying one.

just because local ustad class road side shops can not fix it people consider it as fail.
It is car much better then any 5 -7 year old JDM, all parts for Liana are available brand new only if somebody is actually willing to fix it.

On the other hand Suzuki swift is the only good suzuki imo, it feels much more robust than other models. Even then most of them have coolant expansion tanks that have lost their plastic caps since it is so poorly designed.

Hmmm, I get it. I'm more of a DIY so I'll save as much as possible through that.
Btw has anyone among you ever sat in a Liana or driven one before? How does the ride quality feel?

I personally love Swifts but they would probably go out of my budget. What liana actually caught my eye was that I could find one for as low as 6.75 while having all the cool stuff like power windows, ac and stuff.

we have one in our family since brand new CBU unit launched in 2004-5. It is used as daily mule in Islamabad between F6 & PARC chak shahzad. The lady owner is using with good care. At present odo is 83000 kms, out which about 2000 - 3500 kms are used by me. It is a fine mid size car, with decent fuel economy.

PARC has their own motor vehicle maintenance section, their supervisor mohammed usman resolve the issues in that liana as freelance through home service. If & when new parts are required and not available in twin cities I buy and dispatch from Karachi. The vehicle has been running over 5W-30 engine oil right from beginning. Fluids are changed as per manual.

it is a good car only if you really know trouble shooting and willing to be a diy guy you will love it.

I beg to differ. We have had a 6 year old WagonR now, and Mashallah even after very rough use and 70k kilometres, the car has made us spent Zero rupees over regular maintenance. All of the newer Suzukis (except New Alto which felt a bit cheap) have better quality standards because of a large percentage of imported parts.

That doesn't, however, justify the high prices Suzuki keeps and for marginally higher prices you can buy exponentially better built cars as you go above 2 million.

I had a liana 07 model for an abt a year
My wife used to drive it
She actually made her hands clear on a mini sedan
It was a gud car ac suspension power was very much better than city and gli
I dont know y people hated it in Pakistan
I sold it this year for almost the same price as i bought it
Now I am an owner of swift 2014 auto Alhamdolillah it is also a very gud car but lil but more fuel guzzler as liana was

Sure the more expensive and latest model Suzukis are better in terms of quality, but I am talking about the older models that have been present for some time. Suzuki has been a huge dissapointment for quality in the past imo and could have been far better.

At 70k mileage our 2010 suzuki swift had wheel bearing issues, coolant expansion tank cap fell of, noises in interior panels as well. We had got it when it was just under 8k driven. Despite this I feel its still a big improvement than the other vehicles suzuki introduced locally.

On the other hand, we have had a much better experience with older Hondas, over 190k kilometers on our 2004 honda city and now it has started giving work since it was not well maintained and roughly driven. The wheel bearings in my 1998 civic were changed after 23 years of driving and over 150k kilometers mileage since they started giving noise, interior panels to this day are sturdy and show good quality.

If Suzuki can now provide quality, then my question is why couldn't it have been possible in the past?

Yes, makes sense. Suzuki has absolutely monopolized the Pakistani market and exploited it to the core. It's quite impressive how long these Hondas and Toyotas last.

The only way Suzuki was able to manage this was being the only company in Pakistan producing small cars. Toyota and Honda had various opportunities to introduced smaller cars but did not and were silent in their silos. Come to think of it - you can get a 2019 mehran and 2003 civic in the same price. Most consumers would automatically choose the newer car.

Even when we do an apples to apples comparison of newer suzuki cars they might not live up to their competition.

KIA introduced picanto - only to make it as expensive as cultus (and believe me picanto is worse built than cultus and wagon R).

These chinese manufacturers thankfully have come to disrupt the market and this time they are serious (for e.g. Prince Pearl and Changan Alsvin are looking successfull)

Liana and Swift or even Jimny had the same m13a engine. So if ustaads were not willing to fix lianas how are Swifts and Jimnys running good.

So its not only the engine that was wrong with Suzuki Liana. Out of all 3 Liana is the only car to lessen engine coolant levels.

Even if you like the 6.75 lack liana make sure its not a CNG driven car. Petrol variants of Liana have been soberly better. CNG variant is out of the question.

As other people also mention suzukis made before WagonR and new Cultus or new Alto had pathetic quality of plastics, door handles, wiper, coolant bottle caps.

Newer ones are still not par but better.

Suzuki Swift does feel premium when you sit in it after sitting in any other local assembled hatchbacks. But Swift has one of the worst cushioned seats ever made in a Pakistani assembled car.

Suzuki liana engine was good.....but as per many of the mechanics, it has many other parts which were installed of bad and bad qulity by PS which created problems here in PK.

I think VURV was the only model that was launched by PS after correcting all the mistakes but till that time its market was gone.

The only reason mechanic say " roz LIANA" means if u buy it u have to take it to mechanics......

The Liana Lxi I have my eyes on has a new m13a engine installed about 3 months ago. He is the first owner, CNG was never installed he says. However I am expecting to have some sort of problems. I have heard they usually have bad gearboxes, and transmissions, so I have 75k ready to replace suspensions and stuff.
Based on all of your responses, I guess I'm going for it with an OBD scanner on hand.

i would suggest dont go for it, instead buy a civic in prestine condition some older model than the liana. first of all it will be a civic and no mechanic would make faces when u go for any work and second the biggest hurdle of resale mentality of paki ppl will not make u sad when u go for selling it after some years.
