Water Level decreasing in radiator but I feel its increasing a bit in reserve tank

"Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my recent experience with my Honda City 2015. I decided to replace the radiator water with coolant for better performance. However, over the last 4-5 days, I've noticed that I need to top up the radiator with about 30 ml of coolant daily.

I've checked for any oil stains, thinking it might be a sign of a faulty gasket, but I see no oil floating on the coolant. Additionally, I've observed that the coolant level in the reserve tank is increasing and has even crossed the max level. I set it on max level when topping up.

I would appreciate any guidance on what could be the issue and how to address it. Thank you!

I don't think you have a problem.

It may be a case that it 'looks' like your coolant is low in the rad, but it's actually not the case. All the excess you're adding has nowhere to go but the reserve tank.

Let it go for a week and re inspect.

Or the overflow plumbing is suspect.

It is unlikely but there could be a bit of air in the system that is slowly burping out. If you suspect the head gasket, then water will be in the oil rather than oil in water. So check the oil filler cap and dip stick for water/oil soup. Again this too is unlikely.

So I observed a behavior now I drove car for almost 25 kms than opened the bonet and I saw my reserve tank is over flowing. As i preciously mentioned that I have observed level in coolant reservoir is increasing. No signs of overheating at all.

thats completely normal. it should suck it back once it cools down.

Are you waiting for full warm up and full cool down before checking, it may take upto 4 cycles to stabilize.

The same happened to my Honda City as well. I changed Radiator Cap from Honda. Around Rs 3500. Problem Solved. Before it I tried two Desi Radiator Caps for Rs 500 each. They were a failure. Change RADIATOR CAP. Genuine

Can you explain what exactly happened to your car?
I changed my radiator cap costed me around 1870rs from honda fort(Lahore), will be observing behavior today. Fingers crossed will update you guys soon

The design of Honda City Radiator is like that. even if you will full the radiator to the brim, close the cap and immediately open the radiator cap it seems like the level of water has dropped

Dont open the cap again and again
Just to be on the Safe side change Radiator cap(buy from Honda).
Replace the cap and just keep an eye on level of coolant in bottle.
Every 2-3 months it needs 10-15 ml.
But keep on checking it.
For a few weeks keep on checking radiator levels too.

The spring part of the radiator cap takes some space so if filled to the brim it pushes out the water when closing the cap.

As long water appears to be touching the bottom of the neck and all else normal, it is not to be concerned about.

So I am attaching some pictures of my coolant level in radiator after changing cap even..

Coolant level after day 1 (drove almost 45-50kms)

and thats my coolant level after 3 days almost drove it for 200-250 kms

It is decreasing the more u drive so it seems there's some issue with radiator cap.
