Vitz 2017 fuel economy?

Hi.

I purchased vitz 2017 new shape 1.0 ltr. I want to ask people about its fuel economy. I was getting 12.5 kmpl with 14 inch rim (165/70r14). Due to poor ground clearance I changed the rim size to 15 (175/65/r15).

Now in getting 11.5 - 11.9 kmpl. Is this average good. I'm not satisfied with fuel consumption at all. As per my search and what company promises, I should be getting around 15kmpl.

Assalamualaikum. My car has been giving poor fuel economy since the last 3-4 months. I am getting around 9-10 km/l in the last 3-4 months. The best I got was 10.65 km/l. But following is a summary of things that could cause poor fuel economy:

1. More Viscous (thick engine oil) as opposed to the recommended oil
2. Low quantity of engine oil.
3. If your tyres are misaligned, under inflated.
4. Check and have your oxygen sensor cleaned.
5. Check the condition and functioning of the fuel pump and filter
6. Make sure the injectors are not bad and serviced.
7. Check and service MAF sensor.
8. Check spark plugs to be clean while having specified tip gap.
9. Also see the condition and cleaning of Air Filter/ Cleaner Element
10. If not changed before, please replace your CVT fluid
11. Above all, your driving style is directly proportional to the fuel economy

Should get you 14-15km/l inter city and 17-18km/l on long.

IMO, 165/70/R14 VS 175/65/R15 won't make much difference (and you have already mentioned it. 12.5 VS 11.5 is not a huge difference), main issue lies with your driving habits, road conditions, etc.

IF Car is 100% OK in all respects, then deciding factors for fuel efficiency are driving habits of the driver, road conditions, rush, stop and go traffic, etc.

You won't believe me, but I have been able to get 17~19 kmpl fuel efficiency on both Vitz and Passo, within Islamabad, because, my driving habits, driving conditions were very favorable (I drive with a very light, soft foot. Most of the times no rush, etc.)

For increasing fuel efficiency, you may do following:

1. Replace / Clean Air filter, if dirty.
2. Use any of 0w-20, 5w-20, or at max., 5w-30 fully synthetic engine oil.
3. Maintain proper tyre pressure.
4. Try to drive with a soft foot.
5. Let go of any additional weight in the car, etc.
6. Use fuel from reputed Shell and Total pumps only. Last options may be HASCOL, BYCO, and even PSO.

Can we clean the catalytic converter instead of replacing it?

Yes. Servicing and replacing both could be done. I have a 2010 Vitz currently. It is going for Cat Con servicing next week. I also did the same to a 2011/12 Vitz that I had previously.

10-11 km/L is good fuel economy within city for normal driving and rush traffic conditions.

Normal means not an extremely light foot that others sleep when you're driving.

So just enjoy. If you're getting above 16km/L on motorway, then nothing is wrong and don't ruin your catalytic converter by pouring acid or chemicals in it.

I'm extremely light footed. Intact the eco light is always there when I'm driving.

What's confusing me is the fact how much 1.0 ltr engine is exaggerated regarding fuel economy.

People having locally manufactured cars with 1.5 ltr engine are getting same economy. It's not worth buying 1.0 ltr if someone is considering fuel economy as a main factor.

1.0 liter with body weight of Vitz is not at all a fuel economy car within the city.

On long drives and motorways and empty roads it will give you GREAT economy.

So if most of your drive is within the city rush traffic then Vitz won't give any fuel economy benefits.

Power to body's weight ratio also counts and matters, coupled with aerodynamics, etc.
