Views on baleno

i am planning to buy a 2nd hand used car. my budget is not allowing me to buy a honda city sx8 as i want to buy a car within 6 lac. so i am thinking of going towards baleno 2003 up model. any guides or suggestion because almost everyone said it will be a bad choice.

A good car nice avg and loads of parts ....the down side its very uncomfortable...we had the sports version.

excellent car, infact less noisy than corollas, but opt for a good condition car not a "bigri" hui car. I have corollas, civics and imports under my use and so far the baleno has the least maintainance cost and excellent reliability, I am comparing it with a altis 07, civic 08, vitz 2003, and a 2.oD 1999.
Mine is a gti BTW

kindly do also some of ur research on the cost of spare parts! baleno k original spare parts are hell expensive! some parts are even more then city 2002! and i heard that when its axle get weak , the whole cv joint is to b replaced?plz shed light on this. plus u need to change its coils or injectors after 30 or 40k on cng! i m talking about the 1300cc baleno! 1.6 gti is flawless

I guess all japanese cars use replacement parts made by denso aisin fuji etc. So logically speaking the price is at par....

I am a proud owner of Suzuki Baleno 2003, bought it zero meter. It is still on petrol and has clocked around 149,000Kms. Condition of engine is excellent as I used genuine engine oils and oil filters. Yes, the genuine spare parts are very very expensive but no one purchases them except a few car lovers. The choice for purchasing Baleno is very good as it is the most cheapest big car u can buy very easily, but always go for a well maintained car. Comparing Baleno's drive with Civic and Corolla is 100% right, Baleno's drive is outclass and it is less noisy.

Suspensions r superb, my axles and boots r still genuine and never got them changed. Only I had to change both lower arms, as I drive very fast and was not getting a smooth ride at 110 to 120 KM/HR in urban roads. SO i changed it with Fuji Japani lower arms which costed me 8,700rs ( Set) almost 9 months back. The genuine ones were costing 16,600rs each, 33,300rs set from showroom. A hell lot expensive. In 10 years this was the major mechanical work as i drive carefully and maintain well. In 10 yrs it is worthwhile to spend that much on mechanical work. Other I have spend in lubricants, tyres which is normal.

Baleno is less noisy then corolla....doesnt seem joke of the month....

For God Sake, what do u think , only you have this RARE experience of driving and comparing the cars?...my LORD... limit of exaggeration..that too absolutely wrong...

I have kept a Baleno 1999 Glip for 4 years and have driven it from Karachi to Islamabad a couple of times also.
Very smooth drive, and definitely less noisy than a corolla (same model and condition).

I also own a corolla 2004.

thanks guys for such kind coments. i have talked to a baleno owner. he owns a 99 model. ACJ xxx is the number plate. i guess ending of 99. the ride was awesome. sealed engine maintained car. dil kush hogya is baleno ko dekh kar. the only down side is he is asking 5 lac for that model car. no doubt the car is clean and awesome. but the demand is too high. i asked him for 4 lac and i am planning to buy the car if he agrees within the range of 450k. i guess 425k will not be a bad bargain. the car is in white colour. japan assembled. moment of truth what should i do ? zaban par bharosa kar k uthalu if he agrees at that price ? and what things should i check for ???

Please share your maintenance experience. So far majority of users on Pakwheels complain of efi cars the likes of the ones you own.... Im sure that now a substantial time has passed , technicians and mechanics whether from 3s dealerships or normal workshops should now be well versed with handling baleno and liana based issues...

why is 1.6 gti flawless... there cant be a huge difference in the cars......

while making comparisons atleast use a little bit of sense and compare same model cars, a baleno 2001 is way way better than a corolla xeg of same year, a city of same year and even civic.
for those of you who think parts are expensive have neither owned a baleno i assume, that axle story is funny though, however my expereince is that anycar with powerful engine eats away the inner axles, maybe its the initial jerk of the gearbox. yes it is more quiet, even my 2 year old daughter can tell, and it rattles less than a corolla, gives better field of view and handles road well.

following was observed on my cars at 100,000km
only civic is at 78,000km

1. Seats of corolla 2001 got torn, mis aligned, brakes got me in a spin, rest fine, engine still going good , basic maintaince etc was performed

2. Civics seats are fine but door fabric is worn out, many painted areas of dashboard are worn out, pathetic braking when on load, back ache patients should avoid as no travel in suspension, rear seat is more cramped than an alto 660cc (not kiding), a 6 foot guy can not sit at back, edges of rear seats are rounded off to give you that special PITA feeling in long journeys. Parts are ok but there is absolutely no fun when driving on long journeys, front door glasses machines were replaced, it has pathetic runners and wheels and it took 2 days for me to get the door morrors working. opening the door panel leaves scratches on plastic due to pathetic design.

3. Baleno fabric is intact, seats are as good as new , dash is new, door panels are rock solid, door hinges never squeak cause they are more stronger than a corolla. Braking is excellent, basic maintainance was performed, never stopped me on road. I always drive it when going on hilly areas cause its grip and power is amazing.

4. Altis door panels have a bubble at each front side, due to sun shades the edges are worn, gear knob worn, steering worn a little, seat got a little depressed from driver side, creaking at dashboard, fuel pump gone once but due to bad fuel, AFM replaced once, complete axle sets changed once, ride is excellent, braking is better than civic, The ABS kicks in a little late than civic and on time. engine is quite and cruises perfectly at 150 on m2,s gives me 13.5km/l at 140 on m2 with AC(its automatic), no CNG, civic never above 10km/l(prosmatic as well), The ECT power button does wonders, Car has one issue and that is aquaplanning, maybe that due to stiff suspension other than that its mechanically 100 times better than a civic reborn.

5. vitz 03 is great, hauls people well, excellent power and economy, kamaal Ac, strong undercarriage, no wear and tear.
