I have a 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser with a 2H engine and 5 speed manual box.
Would like to upgrade to an engine with more power preferably a V8.

Need your help guys.

Has anybody experience in putting a V8 in a FJ62?
Also which engines are available in Pakistan which are V8?

Can I put a 2UZ or 1UR in an FJ62? What is the cost for these engines?

2UZ are Cygnus and Grand Cruiser engines that cost more than what they re worth. Tricky electronics and expensive /hard to find parts makes it a pain to maintain and compromises the reliability of the rig in general. In short, more pain than pleasure. They re also extra thirsty and not at all economical or logical on long haul journeys. Not to mention their inability to handle poor quality fuel that is in abundance the further you get from population.

1UR is a 200 series engine that costs a kidney, a leg and a house, somewhere between 2million to 3.5million (BTW Conservative price range) you can deck out and modify another rig with that kind of money.

I have actually built a few rigs of my own with a Toyota V8 engine like an '84 FJ with a 1UZ, Y60 Safari with a 3UZ and a Jeep Wagioneer with a 3UZ. The adapter plate to mate a 4 wheel drive gearbox is tricky and gimmicky to get just right and a rig without 4wd is not a rig at all in my opinion.

If you want functionality, reliability and utility, stick with the genuine engine that's got massive amounts of torque and does what its designed to do. 12H-T isn't a bad choice either. Hope this helps

@Scyther6666 I appreciate your input. If I wanted to go ahead and change both the engine to a 2UZ and the gearbox to the automatic in the Cygnus would that solve the 4x4 problems?

Or is is still difficult and "gimmicky" even with the transmission + engine being swapped together?

Do you know any mechanics in the Islamabad Rawalpindi area who are able to swap in a 2UZ-FE into a FJ62?

Sure, I ve inboxed you. Get in touch with me and we can discuss your build.

1UZ is a good option in Pakistan as the mechanics are well versed with the electronics and mechanicals. Cost is also reasonable. There are a few 1UZ projects on Pakwheels as well.

Who is the best mechanic to work on a 2H engine? Would like to rebuild company vehicle's 2H engine or discuss swap options.

Too much modificiation required to make V8 work. Better to rebuild or use as similiar a engine as possible. 1HDT might be a possibility.
