Twin turbo vs. Biturbo

Wanted to know what the difference between the two is. Most foums say they mean the same thing i.e. two turbos. But apparently the same setup is called different things in Europe and in the US. I don't really buy that...

What about cars like the CL600 which has a Twin turbo engine, and all the 65's which have (rather HAD) a biturbo engine?

lol its the same thing!, both the CL600 and the CL65 have Bi-Turbo badges on them, Bi-Turbo is just another way of saying that you've got 2 Turbos under the bonnet of your car, from my POV I'd say TT is a bit boy racer for Merc, they like there stuff to be exclusive and upscale in comparison to the competetion.

Even though these terms are generally interchangeable, technically speaking they are not. Twin turbo is two identical turbos on each bank. Biturbo is two inline turbos, usually a smaller one for low rpm and a bigger one for higher rpm.

For example: Mercedes has both twin turbo and bi-turbo (600 and 65). Bi-turbo means there is a turbo for each bank of of cylinders (Parallel). And they are located on opposite ends of the motor, Both are same size.

Twin Turbo's are a completely different setup. They have 2 turbo's(one bigger than the other) mounted onto one larger turbo manifold. There is a smaller turbo that spools up to create less turbo lag, at which point a larger turbo kicks in for the higher boost. One feeds off the other.

Bi-Turbo's are in Parallel Setup. Twin Turbo's are in Sequential Setup.

Supras are running on twin turbos. Twin turbos, as much as I can figure, are better for smaller inline config. engines.
