I have habit to discuss with locals and listen their problems and get knowledge of their life style. In my whole tour except one main un-pleasant event when my companion whom I took myself for photography while I drove car all the way, and he refused to give me videos of my car crossing nalas and precious pictures of mine, I faced very funny moments in whole tour. I would like to share them all with you.
AJK GUEST HOUSE - Asgher Abad, Muzaffarabad.
When I reached there and reminded shah jee, the owner, regarding our previous stay at his guest house and requested him allow me to camp in his lawn. He permitted happily. There were six persons discussing with him regarding stay at his guest house, they were truck driver and his helpers. Shah jee was asking them to stay in room and pay rent whereas they were insisting to give charpai' to them for free. They were punjabi, shah jee informed them that there is no extra 'charpai', in return they said give us 'charpai' of cook. Then they discussed rates of meal. The way they were discussing was very funny. I had started camping while enjoying the discussion. Shah jee said camp it and I am also coming inside. I had two camps, one for two persons, and second for 8 persons. After hearing Shah Jee, I decided to use small camp :). One thing that I remember all the way while driving is that when I asked Shah Jee regarding road to Kel, he said bus aap muzaffarabad say niklain tu tapo top pohanch jaein ***. This Tapo Tap took 11 Hours
AJK Tourism Guest House Karen
As usual I started my drive at 10-11 AM (too late), reached Karen in evening. I met Mr. Tariq, supervisor of guest house and another employee 'Rana' who met me first. I asked how Rajputs are here in Kashmir, so he told brief history of Rajputs in Kashmir. Main nay os say apna post office milaya and requested him for permission of camping in the permises, permission was granted. Mr. Tariq also facilitated me with free call from his landline back to my home. Here I decided to use big camp. When I got free from camping, I met a man leaving guest house in his old pajero. I stopped him and started discussion. He was so polite and gave all details to me for two hours. In last he told me that his name is Malik Ansar and he is contractor of the Neelam main road. He left guest house saying that he will meet me in morning. So he came and I asked for Trout availability, he replied that just before Kel you will find a road construction machinery and ask there for 'QARI'. He met me in morning and I told him that my guests are coming to you and arrange Trout for them. I then asked for any surrounding site in KEL to visit, he told me about Arrang Kel and gave ready reference that there is 'Gharari' wala, (the chair lift, I hope you understand) his operator name is Zakir Shah give him my reference he will sit you in 'Gharari' and you will reach Arang Kel in 5 minutes otherwise it will be tuff task for you.
So respected readers, na tu 'Qari' mila aur na he 'Zakir Shah' han albattah Malik Ansar zaror mil gaya apni family kay sath Kel mein phirta hua
Army Brigade Living KEL
We reached at the gate of KEL. My Mehran was loaded with three types of fuel on back seat. one LPG cylinder of 8 KG, Kerosine Oil bottle for Lantern, 10 Ltr bottle for reserve gasoline and I was smoking too, two camps, sleeping bags, cloths, food tins etc. I was expecting detail search on gate. Same happened. A strong soldier having MP5 gun, though he should have G3 according to his physical structure :), came to me looked in the car and asked in typical style 'WHATS INSIDE'. I given hum reference of Captain *****. After 30 minutes I was allowed to go inside. There I met another Captain ***** who was so co operative and polite. He asked 'Bhai aap is car par kasay aa gaey yahan tak, kon say rastay say aiy ho :)'
When I entered room I saw strange black insect about three inch long crawling on floor and a insect called helicopter in our language was flying over. I asked Soldier first to kill artillery and then get rid of helicopter giving air cover to the tank :), he was from Gujrat and me Faisalabadi, jugat marnay say baaz tu nai aa sakta na
I will say that Army was so polite and nice, salute to them.
KEL TO ARRANG KEL
While trekking towards Arrang Kel, I met school boys and joined them as I was lost in the jungle. I asked them to tell me a fairy tale. They said that here is an animal like human is found near 'Kus' (waterfall in english). If woman come in front of him, and a man is accompanying her, he first eat 'Saman' of male, (I hope you all got what 'Saman' mean here) and then starred at female for some time then he use to run away and female started following him. There was same incident long year ago and a female gave birth of his three sons, one died, one ran away and third ka pata nai chala. Most amazing thing in this tale is his name. His name is 'Shurrul' any punjabi can understand this word.
