Hello,

I have a corolla altis 1.6 2018. For some time now, the car in karachi has been giving me an average of 7-8 km/litre with the air conditioner on. This is despite a gentle driving style.
The car has always been serviced on time at the toyota dealership.
Can other altis users comment on this? Or could anyone who might have insight define why this is so? And how can I change it?

Reading online, I am given the impression that the mileage should be around 10 km/l atleast.

iski yahi average hai karachi mein. whatever the world says whatever you do.

the only way to improve average of this ancient transmission car is to carry it on your shoulder and take it along :stuck_out_tongue:

My relative has a 1.6 corolla bought in 2017 (facelift). Its only 3.5K driven and gave him 11.4 km. I have taken only one drive and that drive was on sharah e faisal

10km/l is in Lahore. According to weather conditions in Karachi, 7-8 is maximum for Altis 1.6

are you checking via the meter or tank to tank?

Do not expect good fuel economy if your route have loads of traffic, and speed remains below 40km/h.
Mine is 1.8 cvti and giving 12+km/l within city Lahore, but if I do lots of idling and face traffic jams then fuel economy will drop to 8-9km/l.
1.6 or 1.8 1zrfe/2zrfe engines drinks a lot when they're at idle.

whats your general average speed throughout the day? mostly idling and slow traffic?

Getting 11.8-12.4 km/L on altis 1.6 (4k KMS done) . Average speed is 35-40 km/h. My drive is 70km round trip daily. With very few signals. So yes if stuck in congested traffic it might go down to 8-10 Km/ L.

Not much. Its the route and then the idling. As haseeb said it consumes like crazy when on idle.

See the transmission in current 1.6 altis is the same which was used in 2011 to 2013/14 wali corolla auto and altis cruisetronic etx. Its a 4speed auto transmission and will dor sure consume more.

I owned an altis cruisetronic 2012 se 2017 it never crossed 8.5 without ac in karachi and my routes are smaller. Once on long it did cross 12 mark but that was a non stop drive from karachi to Hyderabad.

If 1.6 had a cvt transmission then it would've been an ideal thing but that is being provided in grande and cruisetronic right now

It seems to me that you have an average situation.
My tips for reducing fuel consumption:
1. On asphalt, it makes sense to transfer the transmission to 2WD mode - in this way the system will not use the nodes transmitting the thrust to the second axle and waste energy on them. Consumption at least a little, but will decrease.
2. Turn off the engine when the car is standing and working at idle.
3. Control tire pressure - the lower the pressure, the higher the rolling resistance of the wheels, and, therefore, the higher fuel consumption. Unfinished tires are the enemies of an economical driver. But pumping tires is not worth it (it is not safe).
4. CLEAN EXCESS CARGO out of the car! Every 100 kg of cargo increases fuel consumption by 0.3 l / 100 km.
