Toyota 1.6 Automatic Engine swap

Dear Pakwheels users, Kindly guide me regarding the following issue.
I have a Toyota GLI 1.6 Automatic 2013 Dual V V T I car whose engine is fully damaged. I don't want to replace it with the same 1.6 engine. Kindly consider the following questions.
1. Can 1.5 Axio Japanese engine be fitted into it?
2. Will I need to change its Gears as well?
3. Will it need any mechanical modification or will it fit bolt on bolt?
4. Is my plan a reasonable one or is there any other solution?

How is it damaged so quickly? It's a relatively newer car, you can go for 1NZ FE 1.5l that comes in AXIO, or a 2NZ FE with manual, or the same engine which is the 1ZR FE but 1ZR will be very Xpensive, but i'll suggest selling it and buying another one as the car is expensive. But let the seller know that engine is damaged.

Thanks for your kind reply. This is my friend's car. I am here on behalf of him since he is too occupied with his chores. The said car's ODO is almost 200,000 km. The engine mobile oil container below the engine got hit with something during journey, oil leaked, and resultantly the engine choked, something broke into it etc. When the car was towed and brought into the workshop, he was told by the mechanic that he better change the engine (I am unsure whether it means just assembly or the whole engine). instead of getting it repaired as it will cost more and still it will remain a local repaired engine not equal to a used Japanese in efficiency. Thanks for your concern and precious time.

If u want to replace it then u have many options like 1NZ(1.5),2NZ(1.3) if u replace with the same engine 1ZR it will be very costly. Also if u want better performance then go for 1ZZ or 2ZZ they both are almost bolt on fitting on the Corolla E140 or E150

The 1.6 Gli comes with 4 speed ect transmission. You can replace a similar engine (assembly only) and get it working.

The other options come with CVT transmission not sure if those engine are compatible with the 4 speed ect transmission and ecu issues.

If your friend intends to keep the car, get the same engine assembly and get going with it.

Ask your friend to visit a mechanic who knows what he is doing, a simple overhaul will fix his issues, scrapyard engines and that too with alteration are a headache.

Ask him to look for reputed places for an overhaul, do not swap, he will end up with a fat bill and an unreliable car
