Every now and then i update information on the car scene in India and this compact SUV segment both petrol and diesel is the fastest growing in the indian car industy at the moment. This list also includes one car i like and regret not buying, the TATA Nexon, Instead i bought a Swift, Now i regret.
Anyways, all these cars are priced in the range of 8.5 to 11lacs on average and have atleast six variants with various trim levels to suit one's budget, Being diesel engined they do cost on average 50 to 70 thousand rupees more than the petrol version., Below is the list of Top five diesel compact SUVs in India.
- Hyundai Venue
The Venue is selling like hotcakes in India and is a great all-rounder, The front looks very impressive while the rear is a bit plain but seating is generous and the diesel engine is a 1.4 liter with 6-speed MT with 220Nm of torque. A nice all round package for the conscious buyer.
2.Mahindra XUV300
Indian car manufacturers have come a long way, baby!, The XUV300 defies the jelly been school of styling with it's sharp creases and the interior is world class. The diesel engine 1.5 liter, 117bhp mill with 300Nm of torque. The XUV300 is the most expensive car in this list at almost 12lacs for the top line variant.
- Ford Ecosport
The Ecosport has been around for six years in India but is still valued for it's handling. This car is a part of Ford US lineup and other world markets too, The diesel engine is a 1.5-liter diesel motor – tuned to develop 100hp and 205Nm of peak torque A new Ecosport design is now in the making.
4.TATA Nexon
Even after almost two years on he road the Nexon is eye catching. But, it is also a roomy and practical car for both inner city and highway driving and use. The diesel engine is a 1.4 liter mill producing 110bhp and 260Nm of torque from TATA Motors Revotorq family of engines,. TATA Motors recently celebrated more than 100,000 thousand Nexon cars sold since launch in 2018.
- Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The Vitara Brezza is only slightly smaller in length but same width as the Vitara and is a big hit with customers in India. But, lately sales have been slipping as other carmakers have got their game on and the car is beginning to show it;s age. The 90hp, 1.3-litre diesel motor (which makes 200Nm of torque) trails the other engines in the class on refinement, and low-speed lag.
There are many other compact SUVs sold in India from Honda to Renault and they sell numbers but as mentioned in the title above are the Top five. Thanks for watching. For detailed info , specs and price vist the respective carmakers websites.
