Thick or Thin? Which oil is better?

I along with my friend went for oil change of our vehicles. i purchased CALTEX HAVOLINE FORMULA and my fried purchased CALTEX HAVOLINE CNG. i have noticed that HAVOLINE FORMULA is much thinner than HAVOLINE CNG.

Besides other differences like grades, types etc, if we make only two categories of engine oils i-e Thick and thin, then which one is better???

The “thickness” of the oil is what we call viscosity; the grade of the oil. It is also the SAE rating of the oil. Higher the viscosity, higher the SAE rating. So, thicker the oil, higher the grade and higher the SAE rating. Oils of same grade have the same viscosity or “thickness”. They have to; all oils have been tested to obtain a certain SAE rating. So, if you think the “thickness” of two different oils of the same grade is different; your senses are playing a trick on you.

You should always consult your vehicle’s user guide to obtain information on the grade of oil that is recommended.

nd honda geniun oil is much thinner than havolin formula...i use havolin too...!!!

The main reason of the oil being there is to lubricate the engine. It’s a very good idea to categorize the oils as thick and thin.
If you are using thicker oil then it will give you a little less horse power out of the engine but it will protect your engine in a long term. And its a good idea to use a thicker oil in an old car.
If the car is new then it’s a good idea to use thinner oil as you won’t need to worry about the wear and tear of your engine and the pick up will also increase.
And you can keep the thicker oil running in an engine much longer then a thin one.
But if you are racing, use thiner oil and change regularly.

Yes. That what i was asking. i used both HAVOLINE oils. HAVOLINE FORMULA (Thin) and HAVOLINE CNG (Thick).

when i use Thick oil, the engine sounds loudly, fuel consumption increases and pick up decreases.

When i use thin oil, the engine sounds better, more pick up.

u r right. thick oil for old engines and thin oil for new ones.
