Thermostat Switch (radiator fan switch)

After 3 and a half years and about 56000km running finally the (automatic) radiator fan switch of my Mehran has given up.

Would like to know which is the best brand/make to replace it. I came across 3 different types of switches, the most expensive one was like Rs. 400/-

If anyone of you has some good suggest/experience kindly share with me.

P.S.
By the way this will be first ever part to be replaced in my Mehroo (except changing brake pads/shoes and different oils/filters, spark plugs and few bulbs), now who says a Mehroo is a bad car to keep and run

Yes there is something wrong with the bulbs of mehran. I kept one for two and a half years and change bulbs quite a few times, eventually shifted to tubes.

My radiator fan switch, (actually known as thermostat switch) gave up at aroun 30-40K kms. I bought one for 300/- (it was one and a half years ago i guess). But i have heard that these switches are not very good. I tried two switches but none of em worked, eventually my mechanic made the fan direct.

Sorry cant remember the name of manufacturer.

Well making 'fan direct' is the easiest way for the mechanics. But of doing so there are couple of other issues...1st the eng. wont get it its required temp. and as it is a CNG fitted car, so until it gets to its required temp. one might feel a little bit of knocking. and the other problem is the main coil will get a lot hotter... even if a rely is added still it will be a lot hotter.

Because of these reasons I wanted to replace that 'thermostat switch'. I have heard similar kind of things as you have mentioned, so I thought I might get some good advice over here at Pakwheels about some good brand.

I understand what you are saying. For CNG Mehran, temperature was all the time at a higher side so even when i made the fan direct, it did not result in any knocking or anything else. It did not result in any reduced temperature level. Infact when i installed the switch, fan was switched on when my needle was very near to the red zone so i got rid of the switch and made the fan direct. Did not face any problem. It might be a problem in the long run though but i cant be sure since i sold off my mehran few months back.

Now that is a interesting thing to know... that the fan of your car used to turn on when the needle was almost close to danger zone...
ummm now what could be the reason behind that.

The temp. gauge of my car used to stays around 50% mark, yes it used to go to 55-60% when driving in heavy traffic with the AC turned on.

yeah. Reason as told by mechanic was a faulty thermostat switch. (although i did not believe it but had no option ).My car was without AC and it stayed on aroun 60-65 % temp level all the time. On cng it used to get higher while going to murree so there must have been a problem ( no heating up on petrol). I am not a right person to give a technical opinion.
I am only sharing my experience.

I have just bought a thermo switch. The box says it is a Japanese made but God know what made it is. Will install it in a day or two and let you know the result.

Yes do inform me how it works. also inform about temperature level after which it switches the fan on.

Buying a kabli switch was also an option.
