ok boys its time to upgrade this thread.
in the past few months i have used plenty of lens... some of them include
1) 24-105mm f4 L
2) 50mm 1.8 mkII
3) 18-55mm kit lens
4) 15-85mm IS USM
5) 55-250mm IS
6) Tamron 17-50 f2.8
7) Canon 17-50mm f2.8
thats a very long list of lens there... but i have sold most of them to finally settle down for my two lens which defines my need the most.
my biggest debate was between Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Canon 17-50mm F2.8. since i do alot of indoor shots within this focal length, that is why i needed the best lens for this job.
however, the internet didnt have enough reviews for the TAMRON VC edition therefore i had to decide on my own.
TAMRON 17-50mm SP VC
Price :- Rs.56000
This lens is a direct competitor of the canon 17-55mm F2.8 . but is also half the price .
the lens has a very good construction, it feels very solid and has no creeks on its focus or zoom parts.
The lens has an Image Stabilization which allows me to shoot sharp images even at 1/10 of a second without getting any blurry effects... since its all the way 2.8, it very very useful for my indoor purpose or places where flash is not allowed
However, i felt something is missing.... it was not what i was finding.... which made me think of the canon
CANON 17-55mm F2.8
Price :- 110,000
as the price suggests, it was not a very easy decision over the tamron, specially when i didnt know how well would the canon do against the Tammy. Any way i took a brave step and brought the lens....
here are a few samples from both the lens.
TAMRON
CANON
here is a close inspection shot of both of them with tamron being on the left.
here is another pic of both the lens focusing on the icecream. again tamron is on the left. Note how the tamron has lost the details of the rug .. the canon has alot more detail
CONCLUSION
altho the results are pretty straight in favour of the canon, yet there is a very big factor which might make u think twice before going for the canon. And that is the Price.
For almost twice the amount of the Tamron, the canon does provide u some benefits ONLY when you look into the pic .. for normal viewing, the Tamron is still considered a very good lens...
Both have a very strong Image stabalization and can easily focus at 1/10 without and motion blur. infact all these tests were done at 1/10 f2.8 and hand held no tripod.
For people like me who go for sharp images and avoid using any editing, the canon is worth the extra money,
however people who are good in editing and mostly view their pics on the pc, i would say the tamron is not a bad choice.
Thanks.
