Swiching from 20w50 to 10W40

I am currently using 20W50 in my reconditioned second hand Mitsubishi eK Wagon. After checking manual, I found that it recommends 0W20,5W30,5W40 amd 10W30. My car has done 188,000 km mileage. I used 20w50 considering its high mileage. But I have also noted that there is 10w40 oil for high mileage vehicles. Can I switch back to 10W40 or 10W30 for high mileage vehicle? is it beneficial to me? Since I started using this 20w50 oil forhigh mileage vehicle I have noted loss in fuel efficiency. engine size is 650cc

You may use 10-40 oil if engine reduces oil revert back to 20w50

If engine does not reduce oil, then you can switch to 10w-30 or 10w-40 / 15w-40. However, if it starts reducing it, you can revert back to 20w-50.

Go for 10w40 castrol magnetec best oil and reasonable

honestly it does not reduce oil at all but I switched to 20w50 considering its mileage. Now, do I need to go for regular oils or the ones indicating 'for high mileage' or for older cars. I just want to be sure for the next service

If this is the case, then you may switch to 10w-30 or 10w-40 / 15w-40 from any well-reputed brand.

Again, it is surprising to note that fuel consumption has changed immediately after switching back to 10w40 Castrol magnatec. I can see the oil is thinner that 20w50 and I hoped to gain more mileage. I changed it like today and travelled a 152 km only to discover that I used 12litres which my car never does. the same distance could consume 7litres at an average of 20km per litre. Is it because of bad driving habits or sensors have got problem? Currently I am testing it again so that I see how the consumption will be in the next full tank.

From when you are running this Vehicle?
If you are using the car since long, then what was its average before?
What is model of car, is it eco idle?, Manual or Auto transmission?

I have been using this car From February, 2018. I could get 20km per litre or 18km/litre while driving long distances but I could get 15km, 14km or 13km per litre on congested traffic (stop-start-drive). 650cc, Automatic transmission, ECO idle.
