I have a 96 CD3 Accord with F18b non-vtec engine and auto tranny which i wanted to swap:) I loved the car as it is 100% in its original condition inside/out even spare alloy wheel is still plastic wrapped. The original engine is 115K driven but remain neglected on servicing part so did the transmission. Kindly suggest/guide me about available options with price estimates while considering
from an economy perspective as it will be a daily driven car
if we add little power to for occasionally fun driving but surely not a Type R requirement
Nonetheless, my personal preference will be a bolt on swap with ideally zero front suspension upgrades. Google results shows F18b vtec or H series motor for accord. local experts recommends K or B series, my mechanic suggests D17 engine 1.7 VTEC-E(based on cost and condition and availability).
Yes Xulfiqar...occasional jerks in transmission as well. I have seen your expert opinions in couple of threads, will appreciate if you share your comments. Thanks!
Bro F18B VTEC or F20A5 or F22B DOHC according to your budget.
Forget D series or B series they will die pulling the car even with VTEC & u have to cut your car.
H series & K series are overkill & overpriced.
Shershah kabar people have 3 or 4 C27A small block SOHC VTEC of Honda Legend and one with half Acura legend front cut with 4 speed torque converter auto complete asking 280,000 for whole with a lot of potential to bargain.
Very few people know that it sits in 93 Accord without any effort. Only the intake manifold needs to be shortened up & tuned a bit.
Our beloved mechanics only know the names of engines without even having a basic operation manual.
Unfortunately rings pistons valves & cam are very rare for this car I can arrange them if u r in Karachi do text me.
Engine swap will considerably decrease the value of car and also require change in book from excise & taxation department.
@xulfiqar@nooman@Saboor and those who viewed but don't gave their valuable suggestion...compression test of all cylinders falls between 110-145, OBD scan is clean every time. the reason i wanted to swap is poor fuel average that is not going beyond 6KM. to improve it i have changed and than went to original parts installed like injectors, MAP sensor, coolest sensor, throttle body, fuel pump(3 times), plugs.
when i bought the car, i was told that previous owner(parsi baba) never bother to change the fluids probably when he bought the car brand new. i changed all the fluids especially flush the transmission oil and it took 14ltrs until new oil seen coming out. the transmission was bit jerky but when extremely smooth after flush. now after every test mechanic is saying that transmission is weak and opening it item right because of chocked filters inside. my friend advised to changed the trans+engine.
car performance is intermittent as it drive one day and then went like a donkey any other day....one thing that i like to add here is that car performance is sluggish in D4 but when i put it in D3, trust me have given tough time 1.8civic on GT road. so could understand why this? might because of gear ratios inside transmission? but there will be no different set of gears for D4 and D3 i believe?
being as a job person i cannot afford more time to be spend not this car on weekends while eating out family time. I love the car and don't wanted to let it go so decided to change engine and swallow this bitter pill SO plz tell me shall i change the transmission only or go for complete swap? plz reply with price estimates for each swap you recommend....tks
Bro take the car to Honda Fort and change the transmission filter.
If the car is working fine at D3 it would be sole waste of time to change or swap anything. Check the ECU thoroughly .
Open up the transmission when changing filter and see the condition of torque converter and all 4 clutches. If only the torque converter is gone and eating up transmission fluid u can get one from kabar at Bilal Gunj for 8-10k. But its always risky to rebuild auto transmission with junk parts.
Check the fuel trims and clean the fuel lines and fuel tank. Check the fuel pump pressure.
A bit of tuning & u may get 8km/l and that is it. Even new CD3 Accord wont give more than 24MPG in city.
There is no harm in driving with D3 once u change the filter and get the fuel economy right. The car is big and its power to weight ratio is not very good. The non VTEC 105PS paired with 4 speed auto has to move 1,250kg vehicle.
Swap would easily cost u 120k even if its Bolt on. It will also reduce the Accord's value by 100k and u also have to spend to change the registration book or print new engine no. Not guarantee that it would be trouble free car forever or even that things could go worse.
In these cars swap is the last option unless the car refuses to move. If its KHi no car and u cant get the things right better to sell it at any showroom in KHi. It will fetch good money.
Sum things up if transmission filter change does not work change the torque converter or rebuild the transmission. Buy new OEM Honda parts from open market and get the job done from any Honda 2S or other mechanic who has done that before successfully. Honda Fort has done that job on a CD3 Accord before but ask for full estimate. They should not bill u more than 40k.
Overhauling the F18A engine is also not that difficult. Rings / Pistons & Valves r 15k approx new for China ones works fine for 5 yrs easily. Another 15k for labour and lathe machine time required 3 days.
@nomaan...much appreciated your detailed reply and advice...fuel pressure was i think 45 or 55psi. cleaned all the fuel lines and used luiqymoly injectors cleaner couple of times. by the way transmission is not eating up oil. D4 is extremely sluggish. i am not expecting any miracle on mileage more than 8-9km but wanted to feel the drive of Accord which is badly missing at the moment. Mechanic said he will open the transmission and see the filter which if required will be cleaned or changed along with inspection of 4 clutches and TC. if transmission seems weak i will change as it is costing 12K for similar one from nose cut + labor to put an end to the frustration.
I am based in ISB but bought the car from KHI after a long long search, selling it off in ISB will be great loss as what i have been told by friends. bought for PKR750K back in 2013 + carriage to ISB. don't know what will be its worth right now BUT the car is really an eye catcher so can u or anybody else suggest any value based on current KHI mkt price?
Bro no need to sell the car if hopefuly transmission works. Just dont swap the engine and car will retain value. Here in KHi good cars are selling for 550k to 650k & CF-3 Accord is also selling for 600k to 750k. CF-3 r both London Model & JDM. I dont think that transmission is weak or else it would not work in D3 also. As u said some ratios be messed up by broken teeth of planetary gears. That is most common in autos where fluid is neglected.
@nooman...what is the resolution when you saying"As u said some ratios be messed up by broken teeth of planetary gears. That is most common in autos where fluid is neglected." sorry for my ignorance. can you tell me exactly what is happening in my case as per mechanic poor fuel efficiency is due to transmission is not supporting engine at optimal level so thats why car is feeling heaving and consuming fuel????
