Should I buy a used car in good condition which is 10 years old?

As it gets harder and harder to afford new cars in pakistan, one tries to find a good condition used car when buying it.
Often times I see old cars e.g reborn 2008 model and cars of 2010 model that are many years old but in excellent condition ( as per the owner ) some of them are even imported.
So my question is, is it wise to purchase a car that's 8-10 years old ? When you look at the add and talk to owners or bring a mechanic to check the car is 100% ok but I've had many people tell me that once you actually start driving daily it does give you trouble. Engine kam nikalna shuru kr dyta ha.

For expert advice my question is more aimed towards Reborn ( hybrid ) , old model city etc.

heres my take...

i have always had old cars.

in my case i am myself the mechanic for majority of jobs....

but... an old car ALWAYS requires some form of maintenance sooner or later. it will require SPARE PARTS, and MOST IMPORTANTLY a BIG chunk of your time. if you are not technically adept, there will be the additional cost of competent or idiot mechanics....

also cars prices are skyrocketing.... it is no longer feasible to buy a car and keep it for a long time. older the car, lesser it will sell for. and gap between your car sale price and new car price will keep increasing...

my current car is 23 years old.

i have saved up enough to get a zero meter alto. and this alto will be replaced every 2 - 3 years now. only preventive maintenance is required in this time period.

So would you say its smart to go for a new hatchback rather then a used old car since I've only owned one car before this and I am no way technically good to know whats what.

buy a new or almost new car. sell in 2-3 years.

New cars are too expensive and if you cant afford them get an older one. I have seen people driving 30 year old cars and they run just fine. If you maintain it well it wont cause you issues. Newer cars have more expensive parts so i dont think that maintenance cost for older cars is very high in comparison. You must be technically strong for good maintenance and this place can teach you a lot

if you can spare time and money to fix issues, you can buy old cars as well...because older cars WILL get issues and you will have to fix them to keep the car in good condition.

so, if you need a weekend car, you can buy any car u like, but if you need a car that you need to travel daily on ... the preferable choice would be the newest possible in that price...

but again, it depends on your choice... what do you prefer more.. the ease of low maintenance or the joy of comortable ride..
you can buy a Mehran or a Civic in 10 lakhs, but both will fit in different scenarios and choices ...
