Related to Car Conversions

Hello, recently there has been a trend of conversions being done on old mercedes models and converting them to a newer model/year.

My question is, lets suppose i have a Merc which is of 2007 model, i buy a newer model for ex; 2012 in UK and have it ripped off and just bring the parts to Pakistan and then assemble them onto my current 2007 mercedes.

So in short i avoid the heavy duty of importing the new car, instead the body of my car will remain the same but everything else fitted will be of the newer car including the engine.

Is this legal? since this is happening widely

yes its legal. because in pakistan theres no concept of checking for vin .....

theres a garage here in karachi, that specializes in exactly this.

Its all fine and dandy till you get a hot vin or a seriously bad situation car where you need to connect to mb for updating some software.

There was a very high profile incident in Karachi about a year and half ago, which caused the owner to end up as a missing person.

This is called chop shop business and while its blind to pakistan customs because they are the worst of worst of illiterate idiots (Pakistani bharti tradition) - the donor car may have some serious hornets and bees attached to it.

I asked one of the guy who is converting theses amgs, he told me once you have all the duty paid documents of the parts, customs wont do anything since they only care about if the parts are stolen or legal. As for the engine he said you can easily update it through excise and it will be good to go. I think this must be legal since i have seen people spend almost 4-5 crores to get a BMW converted to M5 Competition

Just make sure the donor car isnt related to some criminal or any other similar stupidity, if and when the car is connected to download any firmware or tds registration and it gets flagged.

Customs wont give a crap that they cleared it, you will lose your car.
