Refrigerator -- no-Frost VS Direct Cool

I personally want to by a no-frost technology because it's the later one.

But one of my friends told me that the no-frost is not recommended in Pakistan. In his opinion, the no-frost technology is not suitable for our weather conditions and the type usage (in Pakistan). How true is that?

I have to use it in Lahore. Which one you'd recommend, no-Frost or Direct Cool?

Actually he's right to some extent because in Pakistan there is load shedding issues and hence a no frost can lose its cooling early because technically there will be no ice inside the cabin.
whereas the other one will probably last longer and hence your fridge items will not get spoiled easily.

I have a 20 year old no frost National fridge at home. Been running it in Lahore since then and it's still going strong. Recently, purchased another no frost Samsung fridge and it's been a year and it's working perfectly as well. I would recommend you to get a no frost.

Imagine, in 20 years the bacteria must be having many generation living in that fridge. Food get rotten, spoiled and gets fungus. Running fine is not the only factor to keep a fridge for so long. Just a thought.

That's the reason we bought a new fridge. It's just used as a secondary fridge now for a few things which fail to fit in the primary one.

Dear Brother!

No frost refrigerator is OK to use with Area of 0 load shedding. As we do not 24/7 continuous electricity supply so No frost are not suited.

If you are living in Behria Town then you Can go for No Frost fridge...

No frost refrigerators somehow dont work as good as they are expected especially during peak summers and loadshedding.
We had a National no frost refrigerator. It didnt cool as good as we had expected. Put an external fan behind it after which it got better. Ultimately had to get rid of it and bought a dawlance and its been working flawlessly since 5 years now.

A friend has a samsung double cabinet no frost and it too failed. Hes been trying to sell it for the last couple of months but no body except kabaria is willing to buy it.

Whilst were in Pakistan, we had been using Dawlance since the 80s. Dawlance makes the best refrigerator.

The No frost General Gaint worked fine since 1994 till 2007 before the start of loadsheddings and then finally we alsoswitched to Hiar and PEL Direct cool ones.

What if I buy the inverter technology no-frost and put it on UPS to avoid the load shedding problem? Then you recommend no-frost?

Nothing like a no frost refrigerator, as defrosting is bit of an issue; but if you have lot of load shedding in your area, go for a tropicalized version with good insulation.

Get a no frost fridge. Have used Samsung no frost for 20 years and now Mitsubishi no frost for last 6 years.
No issues even with extensive load shedding

People have mixed reviews about No frost fridges as evident from this thread as well. But I personally would never buy a No frost fridge after having a not so good experience with them.

The no frost fridge offers no greater advantage over a direct cool one except for ease of cleaning that too after 2-3 months.

I had a Haier No Frost refrigerator 16CFT. which is almost 15 years old. Every one in the house always complaining that its cooling cant even compete with the older Mitsubishi which was Direct cool and a Dawlance (newer one) which is direct cool. Condition of cooling gets worse specially in peak summer months. I am now planing to buy a Haier Direct Cool, same capacity but with DC-Inverter Compressor.
Furthermore, the no-frost refrigerator they are advertising that can run on UPS consumes more than 400 Watts for its heating coils, so u cant run it on 1KVA UPS with rest of the household load. If you dont wanna put no-frost on UPS, u have to manually install a small UPS (worth Rs3500-4500) to keep its internal circuit powered-up, otherwise if loadshedding happens it will reset its clock and will not turn on heaters on time causing low cooling.
In a nut-shell, go for direct cool with DC-Inverter Compressor... simpler, newer compressor technology.... better cooling in pakistani climate.

I have a Toshiba no-frost fridge, Dawlence direct cool fridge and a Haier deep freezer. No-frost takes more power than direct cool and cooling is less efficient in summers, loadshedding is very bad for no frost. The only benefit of no frost is that it can be cleaned easily. I would not recommend no frost.
