Radiator fan/Cold-Hot needle

Dear all...i just bought a mehran 2 days back. Car is in mint condition and just 26500km genuinely driven. The fan was direct and i had to make it on automatic. When it was direct, the needle always remained attached to C mark even when i have driven it for 15kms. But after making it automatic, the needle moves to middle after few minutes of running and then stays at the position shown in second pic - that is in the green zone but around 75% away from C. We have a liana and xli too and both cars have fixed needles at exact half way mark all the time between C and H.

So, is the 75-80% deviation ok in mehran? I am talking for non ac running conditions. Fan is kicking on and off perfectly as i observed it myself and comes up all the time when ac is turned on.

First pic is of starting the car in the morning today. Second and third ones are on reaching office at II Chundrigar road (around 15km).

I changed the fan connection from direct (previously running all the time) to automatic (temperature dependent).

check the auto switch of fan ! may be its faulty thats why previous owner disable it

this is no where near normal @abid110 basically every cars needle should be in the middle of C & H just your other cars you mentioned.

Please confirm if you are using ''COOLANT'' and please also confirm if the bleeding process of cooling system has been done.

air bubbles left inside the cooling system (radiator or pipes) cause all sort of malfunctions if the system is not bled the right way.

i was in the same sort of situation where i had to go through some youtube videos and i changed my coolant with new and did proper bleeding which sorted it all :D.

Auto switch is working perfectly. Electrician also said its working well

brother you need to get the thermostat valve checked. If everything is fine than probably your scale of the meter C--H calibration is not correct.

As per my experience in mehran it should remain a bit below the middle mark with automatic fan and properly functioning thermostat valve.

well there you go. water boils instantly which is causing temp guage hike.

use coolant of any brand (Zic recommended) otherwise you will be filling water in your car every morning soon with a LOTA.

please use coolant in the car. flush the water from cooling system immediately.

Check the fan switch and Tstat with the help of a thermometer and bowl of water. Thermostat should fully open at about 82C while the fun should kick in at 88 - 92. You will have to remove both parts from card to check.

26000km Driven car with a direct Fan hmm why Pakistanis why. Why dont we just try and fix the damn issue and just look for kaam chalao approach.

My Suggestion will be to keep it direct as of now untill you dont know the issue. Ask the previous owner why he needed to direct the fan what was the issue he faced. Was the car over heated? Or some desi mechanic suggested him that saab pressure bana rahi hai fan direct karka thermostate nikal du. Yeh humaray mulk ka leya system nahi bana yeh ice land ka leya hai :p.

As you said with direct fan it was staying at C so that means thermostate is removed and why it was removed in a 26k Driven car...

dead easy job on this engine. just replace thermostat and thermoswitch, its thermostat opens at 82C and thermoswitch turns on fan at 90C. pour in fresh coolant and ensure system is bleed of air.

yeh japan ke liye hota hai idher nahe chalta idher bohat garmi hoti hai lolz common words of goofs.
i have seen roadside mechanics taking out thermostat and rigging fan to direct in new corolla of my friend which was just driven 10k, he was so anxious that he went to mechanic in rwp sultan ka khu and said him ke yeh gari 4-5 mint baad temp gauge mid me le jati hai and mech said yeh to bht garam ha by touching bonet and took out thermostat and fan on direct

not really if you know you're way around tools.

As @vaqas1 mentioned. You probably do not have a Tstat.

If you had one the needle would not stay at C on direct fan. I recommend you install a Tstat or you'll be adding thicker oil @ 40k and rebuilding at 80k.

Here is how it should behave

With direct fan - Temp should reach 40% of the guage in 2-3 KMs.
W Autofan Fan & Tstat- Temp should reach 40% same way and should stay thr no matter what
