Radiator/Cooling system flush DIY of Honda Civic 8th Gen

Greetings fellow pakwheelers. This thread is about DIY flushing of my car's cooling system. Today I have gathered the goodies required. INSHALLAH I will perform it tomorrow and update this thread with photos and directions.

After investigating and inquiring a lot i came to a conclusion that Caltex Coolant is the best available. Some fellows said it to be better than even Honda coolant So got 2 bottles of 1 liter. It is concentrated so i will mix it with distilled water. I will gather the water from A/C dripping tonight. The Coolant cost me 1420 Rs for 2 bottles.

For flushing the system, i have bought this powder rather than radiator flush as i could not find it in sahiwal. I will mix it in water and run it in the cooling system. I hope it will clean some rust and calcium deposits.

I need some guidance regarding this so guys please guide me a little bit. @xulfiqar will this powder work ?

Dont know if you got original or not but i bought this coolant from Caltex F-8 Islamabad it costed 1000rs per bottle. And i also bought it in 2011 and that time also it was about 900rs per bottle.

I forgot to mention that i got the coolant from my friend's fuel station shop so got it at discounted price. Buddy it is 100 % original I opened one bottle and rubbed it between my fingers. It felt sticky like power steering fluid.

Bro isn't that thing for kitchen use , to me its like putting 7up in radiator instead of water. I think u should not put that in radiator

Bro it is used to clean off calcium/salt deposits on tiles. So theoretically it should clean the salt and rust it the cooling system. I will run it then drain it from the system, then i will run baking soda to neutralize the acidic effect remaining in the system. I could be wrong. That's why i still seek guidance in this matter.

8th gen civic also has the aluminium block like the 9th gen
you are NOT suppose to use ethylene glycol based coolant in it at all
its strictly written in the manual too. It'll corrode aluminium.
better stick with the honda coolant and make sure you get the correct one which is meant for your car. Honda has 2 types of coolants. @xulfiqar............others experts will be able to guide you better

dont use this in your engine, it will never clean it and will never be completely removed as it also has some silica in it as abrasive to clean tough stains on tiles etc.

get some citric acid (taatri) and do the flush - remove the thermostat valve for flushing and do not quench your warm engine with cold water - meaning do not let tap cold water enter a normal temperature engine, the block/head may warp.

Brother you literally made my heart skip a beat. I searched online and found image of this honda type 2 coolant.

Under performance head it says. "Honda type 2 coolant is an ethylene glycol based product for extra long lasting aluminum component protection"

I think i can safely use this coolant for my civic.

Bro ive been using osaka coolant in my civic 8th gen for 2 years..its ethylene glycol based too...never had any problems so far alhumdullilah..

Take a look at the back of caltex coolant. It does support aluminum engines. I have highlighted it in red. Anyway thanks for your concern. Really appreciate your help.

@xulfiqar Do i need to run baking soda after i run tatri in the system ? And for how long should i run the citric acid ? Another thing, I got the USDM civic service manual and it say to drain coolant from engine head by removing a big bolt in front of the head. But in my car that bolt does not exist....!!!!

Bro ive been using osaka coolant in my civic 8th gen for 2 years..its ethylene glycol based too...never had any problems so far alhumdullilah..

Bro i also used osaka coolant in my city and civic. This is a waste of money believe me. I see small particles of rust in the green coolant and it freezes in extreme temperature. I have started wondering if it is plain water with green dye. You car must be relatively new, thats why it is running fine. I would suggest you to switch to this coolant. If you see in long term it is saving you alot. You can run this till 250000kms max. And it has better lubrication properties so it keeps your water pump and entire cooling system in good nick. Entire market is swarming with this osaka. It is too cheap to make me believe that it contains required additives of a coolant. Say no to OSAKA .....

If that bolt is missing I think u shuld just flush the radiator and the reservoir and that shuld be enough..the engine block holds a little amount of coolant so I dont think that wuld be necessary...and what if we dont flush it with baking soda or tattri..I think plain distilled water wuld be enough..lets see how u do it..hurry up bro we all are anxiously waiting for this DIY..Best of Luck though...
