Procedure when selling your car

Hello,

Well.........now that i'm planning to put up my car for sale in the newspapers what is the standard procedure to follow when dealing with the seller for e.g.

1. Downpayment, is it 2% of the value?
2. CNIC verification as advertised by NADRA when making deals involving property, car sales etc.
3. Any other points to consider.

I don't know about this CNIC verification thing. If the person accepts the deal to buy your car, you should get token money from him as per your liking, doesn’t necessarily need to be 2 percent of the total amount. Any money that you think would keep him to his promise of agreeing to buy your car, and get the copy of his ID card.

You should get a title-deed made for its sale (copy of his ID card would be needed here) and signed at the time of taking the money for your car when he shows up. The title-deed would say that you’ve sold your car to Mr. so and so for this much amount and that now he is the responsible owner of the vehicle bla bla bla. You can get it made with the help of some professional too.

You’ll give him the car key and transfer-letter at the time and there would he go…

Good question and answer. I'm new here and its my first post. Please excuse any breach of protocol! If I may add queries:
Where can I find the electronic template for the forms etc to be signed?
Who pays for the transfer and get it done - buys or seller?
How does the seller ensure there is no hanky panky with the car or that it was ever used in a crime?

Transfer charges r paid by the buyer
Tax token is paid by the seller
token money [advance] is around 10-20k,

u can have a transfer deed which can be taken from any car dealer, else mail it to me, i ll try to find if i got 1,

make sure the car is transferred, not left in ur name

One very important think ... always try to make final cash transaction and handing of car documents inside your bank ... so u need not carry cash, just deposit there and then in your account and for additional safety take a friend with you ... aaj kal zamana kharab hai

Recently I had a transaction and it includes the following papers representing a VALID sale and purchase of a vehicle:-

1. Transfer Deed
2. TO Form (Which used to be a simple piece of paper with some stuff printed but now it is on stamp paper)
3. Sale Receipt (Remains with Buyer)
4. Delivery Letter (Remains with Seller)
5. CNIC of Seller and Buyer
6. Registration book offcourse

All the expenses of above are from the pocket of the buyer

Verify the reg, chasis and Engine No from CIA office for any mis use of the vehicle (involvment in acts of theft or murder etc etc)

Then for your comfort, verify the documents from the Registering Authority office otherwise when you transfer the car to your name, everything is checked

Just a piece of suggestion that please please don't waste your time by not getting the book transferred to your name - Just do it as soon as you are driving the vehicle because in the prevailing circumstances, we shouldn't be taking any risks - Hope it helps

If you want to go by the rules, the rules say that the buyer and the seller should both be present when the papers are presented in excise office.

One alternate thing that can work is ... that seller gets a sale deed made on a stamp paper... which shows that the seller has sold the car and after this date will not be responsible for any legal issues, damages, accidents or any illegal activity of the car. In my opinion this should be sufficient if the buyer hasnt transferred in his name!
