Aoa, I have a 2010 Prius 2ZR engine its almost 150k driven now. Im currently using 0w-20 in it but there's a minute decrease of oil on long routes I discussed this with my mechanic and he said I should shift to 5w-30 since its a thicker oil there would be no decrease. I need expert opinion on this should i shift to 5w-30 or stay on 0w-20.

5w30 is fine, within the range specified by manual, even if consumes 5w30 oil, dnt ever go to 20w50 as it wud wreck ur engine

stay on 0w-20
if car is consuming oil it doesn't mean that you should shift to thicker viscosity
1 litre/1000 kms consumption is normal according to many auto manufacturers
just top it up accordingly whenever you observe that oil is bit lower than upper limit
0w20 is best choice for hybrid vehicles like aqua or prius, also it's recommended by toyota

Are you sure about that?? Are you sure that 1l/1000km consumption is normal? I read this on some other thread as well but let's say my car takes 3.75l total oil, after 2k km 2l is consumed. Now I'm left with less than half of my total capacity, how am I going to drive on that?? I think that 100ml/1000km or 0.1l/1000km is normal and anything above 200ml is not at all normal

Yes, initially I thought same
But later on realized as it mentioned by manfacturers in owner manuals so it is normal

My oil decrease is lesser than a liter its like maximum 200ml per 1000km. Is 5w-30 harmful for this engine?

No it's normal
Like 200 ml for 1000 km, not bad at all
That's pretty low
Just top it up regularly
Good to go :+1:

W.S. In my opinion, you may continue using 0w-20, not a big issue.

Some engine oil consumption is considered as normal by some OEMs, and they sometimes also mention it in their owners / users manual, so, negligible oil consumption sey ghabrana nai chaheye.

Just ensure that oil which you use is 100% authentic, and from some reputed brand, like Shell, Total, KIXX, ZIC, Caltex / Havoline / Chevron, etc.

Do not jump directly to it.

If you are uncomfortable with engine oil consumption, then your next choice after 0w-20 should be 5w-20, and in 5w-20, Shell and ZIC are good options.

In 5w-30: Total or KIXX.

Whichever oil grade / brand you choose: It must be 100% fully synthetic, from some reputed brand, 100% genuine and original, and meeting latest API SN / SN +, and / or ILSAC GF-5 criteria.

I hope, it helps. Thank you.

Up to 1L / 1000 Kms (you missed "up to")

In manuals, it is also written up to, like iss hadd takk ho sakti hai, but zaruri nai k harr baar 1L / 1000 Kms hi ho. Its the max. limit, the oil consumption is usually less than it, unless / until engine is in extremely poor condition, with worn out rings, pistons, etc.

Its the max. limit you can say. Oil consumption is not always 1L / 1000 Kms.

Its normal, but how did you measure it?

Absolutely NOT! :+1:

Hahahahahha yes,
It's max normal consumption
So in comparison, 2-300 ml is not a big deal and no need to change grade because of 2-300 ml
