Basically, as the Toyota TSB states, make sure your oil dipstick is full. After 2000 KM, if the dipstick is is below full, put in 946 mL of oil. Start the car and run it for 15 minutes (engine on obviously). If after the 15 minutes, the dipstick is below full, then your car falls under the TSB.
Oil drain interval for a Prius should be 5,000-7,500 KM's OR 3 months, in a very dusty climate. The oil reduction does not matter if it motorway or urban driving, although driving on the motorway would make the oil consume faster. It does not matter about the RPM either, but as I stated earlier, the higher the RPM, the quicker the oil consumption would be as opposed to urban driving.
The reason why the oil consumes on this Prius WITHOUT any smoke is because it is an issue with the oil control ring and the piston rings being of low tension. Instead of wiping the oil away, it gets left on the cylinder bore and burnt in the combustion chamber.Toyota updated the piston rings to have a higher tension, so the issue was fixed after 2014.
Well I mean, the only solution is to order the updated part piston rings using the part number from the TSB and then having the piston rings replaced. The TSB says it is for a 16.6 hour job. I mean to be honest, I run my own company and I am busy. I do favours for mates here in Lahore, but that is very limited because of the hourly labour rate I charge (As in, it is too expensive, only people who want to get it done right spend it).
If you want to get it done from the dealer, they will charge Rs. 30,000-60,000 for the labour, but I have seen the Toyota Dealers and even a private workshop, even the "best" here normally do NOT use repair manuals, torque wrenches, plastigauges, or any of the tools I use. It just depends on peace of mind. Yes everyone can do it here, but if you plan on keeping the car for longer than 1 year, you need to have everything done by the factory repair manual.
