Salams

when i take my car for refuelling, sometimes after opening the petrol tank lid, there is a sound like "whoosh". as if the pressure had build up in petrol tank ( similar to when you shake a fizzy drink and open the lid)

the mechanic tells me that its normal, some cars ve this problem but its not serious.

i know why this happensi ,ts due to movement of petrol which creates an effect similar to a fizzy drink, cause petrol is highly volatile.

but i wanted to ask the experts that whether this pressure builds up in petrol tank ve got any deleterious effects on the car.

The car is JDM corolla 97, 2007 regd. its used on cng and petrol both.

Euro IV compliance need the car to have chemical catalyst element installed in the gas tank to keep the vapours low as this escape of gaseous vapours adds to unburn carbon chains in our atmosphere, unfortunately we do not have such cars common here in pk.

This escape of fuel also effects on your pocket as actually it is the costly fuel that you bought earlier.

I also experience same problem 2 or 3 times in cultus after refilling petrol. But i think this depends upon purity of the petrol. There is also WARNING printed on tank`s cap regarding this issue.

I faced start up problem with my cultus 2008(vxri) a month ago. there was about 6-8 lit petrol. it won't start on pertrol in the morning or standing all day idle in the parking. started fine when hot. i got it tuned but in vain. then i called mechanic to check the car in cold condition. he checked fuel line and there was air sound. then opened petrol tank lid and put it there again. car started in first try. he said there was air in the tank and there's no prob with the car. i got tank full the same day. car used to start fine but now as soon as fuel reached half of the tank, same start up prob with lesser intensity and now fuel is about quarter of the tank and car again giving startup prob. if i remove tank lid, it starts fine but I can't do that daily. I consulted with 2 mechanics but they say this is normal sometimes and not problematic. any expert opinion. I m worried about this!

are you using only petrol or also cng ?

The thing in the red circle is 2 way check valve. The two way check valve allows the fuel tank to vent the vacuum created by the fuel pump pulling fuel out of the tank.

It might be valve which is not working...

Correct !!!

Here is the Pic from my Cultus at PS workshop for undercoating and Fuel pipe replaced --- Looks like I got this months back for this thread.

Brother, you're replying to an 8-year old thread. Though I would've suggested introducing a flame, it tends to get rid of petrol vapors quite effectively. And your face!
