Asslam-o-Alikum - All Pak Wheelers!!!!

I hope you'll be doing great. I would like to have some info on the trip we guys are planning and we need to know all pros and cons including:-

  1. Est. Cost
  2. Best Route (self drive) or (jeep drive) as I can see there 2-3 routes
  3. Road Conditions
  4. Hotels + Est Fare (one can provide)

We're four friends and planning to leave in May or July end 2015 at the latest.

I really appreciate the info. Looking forward to hear from all seniors / juniors pals.

Thank you.

You can search many threads on it and get a valuable information from. Thanks

Thank you almaskhan for jumping in and replying so fast. I have been reading and subscribed to this forum since last year or it would be great if I say ever since I developed an interest of visiting northern areas and seeing Allah's creation and what we're blessed with. I visited Kashmir last year and this forum helped me a lot by all means.

So back to what we're discussing - Yes I have been and I am reading and gathering info. from different threads. For example I'd say this thread -

This brother's route is same as I described above. Someone suggested to use KKH if you want to use your own Vehicle. So please suggest if you / or anyone knows that if a Corolla GLI could make upto Gilgit through KKH keeping in mind all the road conditions / this is my first trip to that area like last year was my first to neelum valley and I enjoyed driving there.

So please provide some info. and more insight about the road conditions and route info.

Thank you again.

Moreover we want to go upto Nanga Parbat Base Camp - so please suggest what would be the best & safe way to leave and park our vehicle as I think - it may take 1 - 1 1/2 day to go through Fairy Meadows and come back as we have plan to stay overnight there at Fairy Meadows and return back to where we park the vehicle next day.

This will help in loosing tiredness and give comfort to the tired feet. Lolx

It will take more than 1.5 day at FM. U will have to make 2 nights at least at FM if u want to make it to NP base camp. Parking is no problem, u can park safely at shangrila raikot for some charges. GLI can easily make up to Gilgit, hunza or even khunjerab (just need lake crossing on boat at attabad lake if u want to visit khunjerab). Road is a bit broken in Kohistan region but ahead of Raikot bridge, its motorway type of road.. excellent drive

Xoofi bhai! i want to ask regarding crossing of Babusar Pass
1. How we can come to know that Babusar Pass is open or not?
2. Suppose if babusar pass opens on 1st June, can a normal car cross it in 1st week of june,,, or initially it is crossable by 4x4 vehicles only?

Babusar Pass won't be open on 1st June.. even if it is, it won't be possible for sedans due to fast running glacial waters & mud. Babusar Pass is suitable for sedans by July mid. Initially 4x4 as you mentioned.

From what I've learned - Babusar Pass won't be opened until 1st June and even take more mid or end of June to open. Sedans may get damage their cylinders, body, bumpers. So IMO that route isn't recommended by any pakwheeler for self driving ONLY if you are highly confident that you can do it. I have seen in different threads with pics where cars go stuck in heavy mud. For example this.

I hope this helps you in understanding what we're talking about.

thank you -
