Pioneer Subwoofer TS-W308D2 and Pioneer Amplifier GM-D8400M in Suzuki Cultus

I'm planning to install a subwoofer, Pioneer TS-W308D2, with an amplifier, Pioneer GM-D8400M in my Suzuki Cultus 2009 having factory-fitted CD-Player and speakers.

I would like to know if this setup affects the car battery since the amplifier would draw a lot of current from it?

Are there any serious impacts on the car's performance? Do I really need to add an additional battery in my car?

NO need to install additional battery, i own a cultus and i have installed 2200watt audio bank amp.

So do you think Te3pu_ch has a bad setup? He mentions that the (assumed "peak") output power is 2200W. Whereas, in mine case, the maximum output power would only by 600W. (I'd run a single woofer out of it and the impedance seen by amplifier would be 4ohm -- specifications say that maximum output power of amplifier (@4ohm x 1) can not be more than 600W, and the R.M.S output power would only be 300W).

The specifications of GM-D8400M also say that maximum current consumption would be 27A. This makes me assume that RMS value of current drawn would be quite less..

So what do you think now? Do I still need an additional battery?

if u install this in ur cultus then u need to install another amp for driving speakerz cuz itz mono amp.nd this setup wil nut effect ur car performance if u install dat in a proper way!

I would not touch the speakers and will better run them as they are running now (directly from CD-Player).

I intentionally selected the mono-amplifier only to drive the sub-woofer.

So.... you said "if I install dat in a proper way, it will not effect my car's performance". But what defines that "proper way"?

bro 1st chnge ur player cuz ur player dsnt hv subwoofer option nd if u'll connect ur speakerz directly to player then itzz nut a proper way.try to connect speakerz wd another small amp for getting crispy clear sound.nd let wire ur setup wd imported 4guage wire+make tuned enclosure for da sub!

Later on upgrating , change head unit only

300Wrms @ 4 ohms , and 600wrms @ 2 ohms

Well, I think, I don't need to change the Head Unit to achieve the said setup, since its a 4-channel HU. 2-channels are being used by 2 speakers. Other two channels can easily be used by the Amplifier by bridging and the amplifier then can provide output for the subwoofer. The amplifier is modern enough and can easily handle Speaker-level input. I agree that this Head Unit (DEH-2950MP) doesn't have controls for subwoofer, but I don't need them either. The Amplifier itself have a Remote Control for gain adjustment.

Totally agree to you. For now, the setup would be great (I was only worried about the effects on battery, which I think won't be any).

The subwoofer's R.M.S power input requirement is 400W, and the amplifier's R.M.S output power is 300W@4ohm, so its a good match. I believe better not to over-power the subwoofer (reasonable under-powering should be okay).

And yes, I will change the Head Unit later when I have more money.

its not very much necessary , if you look early those day , Head Unit came out with 1 RCA , 2 RCA (front , back )
people use to run woofer as well

HEAD UNIT SUBWOOFER RCA OUT : have builtin cross over for sending only low frequency to the amplfier

like , if you wanna clap you will use your both hand (sounds better the slapping on wall)

similarly
the CROSS OVER FROM head unit , the Cross over from Amplifier
the combination of both filters will FILTER Highfrequencies easily
there for only pure low frequency to subwoofer (which is only played by subwoofer)

Generally small Car Can handle 500Wrms
lets take example ,
2009 Mehran comes with
14.4v and 40A alternator which can give power 500+ Watts

In cultus ( i will be bigger like 45A , etc )
all i meant to say , it will consume power 50% from alternator
your alternator will support easily

Absolutely correct. I had a KDC-MP239 in my previous car (mehran), and it had low-pass filter Adjustable with 3 levels. My subwoofer used to work best on the lowest frequency, as you said, the subwoofer will work perfect only when it receives the desired signal (low frequencies).

But as I mentioned earlier, keeping the budget low is the only target for now, and living with the factory fitted Head Unit seems perfectly fine.

I've just queried one shop for the subwoofer/amplifier prices

Subwoofer - Pioneer TS-W308D2: Rs.4600/-
Amplifier - Pioneer GM-D7400M: Rs.7400/-

He said GM-D8400M is not available. I'll check it at other shops too, but what do you people think about GM-D7400M, 200W RMS output? Would it be a good idea to drive the subwoofer which is 400W RMS hungry with a 200W RMS input?

No that wont be a gud idea

Atleast feed it wid 300rms+ that would be gud and safe

400rms continuously with gud bass from pre can reduce life

I searched but couldn't find the new pioneer GM-D8400M anywhere in the market. Finally had to stick with some second hand amplifier but that works great.

Below are the pictures of the subwoofer installed in my cultus above CNG tank.

Woofer enclosure is almost 4~5 inch down the other speakers' board level providing more volume to the enclosure.

Driver's back view is still okay.

Factory fitted speakers are still there but their wires are unplugged and being used to connect Pioneer TS-D6902R speakers.

The used amplifier that I got for Rs.7500 is vtrek AT-2000.1. Below are the specifications that I found on web.

Its a 1-channel mono-block amplifier as I found on web but I don't understand that then why does it have 8 speaker terminals???
