Petrol smell inside the car

Hi, I have a baleno 2005 1300cc and recently I've started to notice the smell of petrol inside the car, is it a problem? And if it is what can be it's causes?

In Suzuki cars, normally fuel smell in cabin comes after filling up the tank. When tank lid is closed and we start driving, then a mild pressure builds up in tank which is released into cabin. But its for a short time only.

if your vehicle is in the same situation then its OK. You can ignore.

But if it continuously coming and smell is strong, then it needs to be properly address. Normally a tiny pipe from which the air enters in the tank maybe blocked/clogged. Opening that pipe may solve the issue. But its just one of the possibilities only.

Check the fuel cap, fuel lines, and fuel tank. If everything seems fine then it could be EVAP/charcoal canister.

I have this habit of turning the tank cap 2 to 3 times when it makes grrrr sound to make sure it is closed properly, does that have anything to do with this? Should I just leave it where it stops turning?

It has absolutely nothing to do with that karrrrr sound.
That tiny mechanism is there to avoid the over tightening the tank cap/lid. So once that sounds come, it means the lid is fully closed. You keep twisting it over and it will keep spinning. But it will not over tight.

After filling the tank, I too pull over and tight the lid by myself just to make sure.

Because once after the fill up, I drove and there was a signal in less than 50 meters and I stop. A biker told me that sir the lid is on the roof. I came out and put it on the tank.

You know, sometimes stupid things happens out of no-where.

yes they do, I mostly tell the petrol station guy to turn it more than once but sometimes when they are in hurry and just close the lid then I do it myself after exiting the station, sometimes I've noticed the petrol itself has strong smell if you get it filled from some other pump or even the same pump maybe difference in fuel quality I also noticed this in my bike

I also have doubt on map sensor though there is no check engine light yet but we had another baleno few years ago and when its map sensor got faulty the check light showed up and there was strong petrol smell inside the car

That happens when fuel is on richer side.
Excessive fuel consumption & black smoke are the main signs in those cases.
