Overdrive OD function

Hello everyone,

I am posting after long. Been busy with many things lately.

I have a question regarding the OD function. I have done a bit of searching and I think I have a general idea of what it is for. Generally speaking, in layman terms, it is the fifth gear for ATs. If turned on the highways it gives better fuel economy and lesser engine wear. But I read somewhere that there is an ideal speed at which OD should be turned on and it is given in the owner's manual. I have a Nissan Wingroad 2006 and can't seem to find its manual anywhere on the net.

Is the above information correct like for instance if I am on highways then I should turn it on after 80 KMH for better cruising better feeling lesser wear etc ? Or is there more to it?

Secondly, if someone has the nissan wingroad 2006 manual, please do share.

Use it whenever you don't want to go into top gear:

__during stop and go traffic when you have to keep pulsing the throttle, which causes frequent gear changes
__during spirited driving (same reason as above)
__during a long downhill for extra engine braking, such as coming downhill from Murree, Pir Sohawa, or Kallar Kahar
__during towing anything

Very helpful. Got it. Many thanks ! So it sort of locks the gear and hence goes to a higher RPM within the same gear... Now I get it ! Thanks janab

the O/D off switch locks out over drive ratio - meaning you cannot use it. e.g. if your transmission is a 4 spd generic autobox, it would have 1st and 2nd as underdrive, 3rd as direct drive and 4th as overdrive.

Overdrive in literal meaning is - less rotation in - more rotation out.
