Asalamualaikum ladies and gentlemen,

Today I’ve had the unfortunate experience of being fined for something I didn’t fully understand. Whilst entering Cantt Lahore, something I’ve done countless times, I was stopped by the jawan at the exit who checks for IDs and he asked me to lower the rear window, which I did. Upon inspecting it he said it’s a film tint and guided me towards a traffic warden + more jawans.

Once I parked besides them, I was asked to leave the vehicle and the traffic warden started filling the challan after asking for my documents. I asked him what’s the issue since only my rear passenger windows are tinted, not the whole car, and I was informed by the Traffic Warden that the Corps Commander of Lahore has personally issued this directive of removing every tint from every car.

So I was fined, my ID detained and I was left with more questions than answers.

1) I’ve seen JDMs having rear passenger windows tinted + their boot glass. How are they exempt?

2) if the Corps Commandar has issued such a notice, why wasn’t it circulated throughout Cantt or at least advertised before entering Cantt?

3) I have searched online and I haven’t seen any concrete laws regarding tinted windows on cars. It seems the law changes every year or is quite broad and open to interpretation. Am I wrong?

I will be extremely grateful to anyone who can guide me towards the proper laws regarding this notice by the Corps Commandar + City Traffic Police and also educate me on the law in general.

Thank you.

The answer for the 1st question: The Rear windows and boot glass of most JDM'S are factory tinted. There is not tint paper on them.

Tints are illegal in Pakistan. Japanese cars doesn't have 100% tints, but that is a 50% tinted glass. Use blinds if you wanna avoid sunlight and heat. Stop moulding law for yourself. I'm hearing this since childhood that tints are illegal. You're not new to this. You knew it on the day when you got tints on your car. It's just the thing that we never want to admit our mistakes.

Thank you for the response however I’m a little startled by your assumptions.

1) I haven’t driven for long in Pakistan, so upon receiving this fine I was inclined to research, hence this query to be educated.

2) If in terms of the percentage is concerned, I’d say mine is on par with JDM cars, if not even a little lighter.

3) What makes you assume that I personally installed these tints? These were already on the car during purchase. I wasn’t told anything regarding them.

4) Would you like to shed some light on questions (2) & (3)?

Thank you!!

The answer to all your questions is, they stopped u to get some kharcha paani and u started using logic with them. This will happen when you will use logic with women and Pakistan Police. You should convinced and handled them emotionally.

Ancient laws are still enforced in Pakistan the police are “lakeer kay fakir”

Tints = banned

I have 3m crystalline sr90 on my vehicle is stops uc rays and is transparent film but its a bit reflective.
I was given challan in 2017 for that

Now i was stopped a week back again but i told them its polish so reflective. Touching window he couldn’t feel the film.

Jdm oem tinted cars get challan too its once a year kind of a thing.

Even some lucky guys get challan on shades

@qwertypoiu
As you mentioned that, one of my friend, who owns a JDM was fined under the same circumstances even though his car is exempted.

That’s unfortunate that you had to endure all this even though all you have on your car is a clear UV protection film.

Thank you for the information and the reply!

Privacy glass (sometimes called 'factory tint') is a special type of glass that has been darkened at the factory by an automotive company. Instead of using a window film, the glass itself is dyed with pigment. ... But certain laws apply in each state that prevents you using privacy glass across your whole windscreen.

Brother june, 2020... friend of mine has told me that 25% tint is allowed on front windows and 50% tint is allowed on back windows...
can you please validate is it true?

Not true
You have to get permit otherwise no percentage is allowed

Sick of this stupid law. I have various % of window tints on all windows except the front and two left side ones. My sole purpose is to block a bit of the heat. Don't know how people drive without window tints. One time a thulla even tried taking away all the shades from the trunk of my station wagon. Make a clear law. Allow a certain % of tint on the rear and front glass like other countries. Make a law that states you have to lower your windows if you approach a police checkpoint. Something like that. I will only accept this law if it's carried out for each and every one. Let's be honest, it's applies on selected people.

This foolish and outdated law, like many other such laws in Pakistan, are only enforced on common people without any logic. One Would hardly see any government official following these laws.

Chiming in on this thread, is there a "better" quality of shades that are in the middle of actual shades and tints. Something that acts like a shade and works like a tint.

Maybe that has to be customized? I'm not sure. I only hear 2 options shades or tints. Why not something in the middle?

Most laws on vehicle window tinting are concerned with the levels of "light transmittance" or "luminous reflectance" that the vehicle's safety glass allows. ... So, having a tint means lower levels of lights which endangers the driver and the other citizen's life because there won't be much visibility during the night. It's better to think more about our laws before trashing them online.

Well its means European or British cars which has factory fitted tinted glass fitted are banned to import in Pakistan.
I have Range Rover and BMW 7 series all windows are tinted does it mean they are illegal to drive in Pakistan?
