Okay, on with some history...
My dad bought the car on 31st December 2014. The car has been with us for almost a year now without any problems so far. We had no intention of using the car daily, we planned to use it only on weekends. We came across many cars but this car just sort of "clicked". We drove lots of W204s; Avantgardes, Classics, Elegance models, ones with manual transmissions too but they didn't have a good options list nor a good maintenance record. Some were abused, others were repainted, some had been involved in accidents etc... Our search wasn't restricted to W204s only, we looked at some W210s and W203s too. All of the W210s (E Class) we saw were basic models with not many options; none of them had a navigation system, no panoramic roof, some didn't even have leather seats. We did find some good W203s with a good options list but they were without a maintenance record or were maintained by local "Ustaads". We gave the most importance to cars with good, complete and proper maintenance records. We narrowed our search down to two E Classes (2003 and 2006 models), two W204s (2007 with manual transmission and another 2007 with an automatic transmission, Avantgarde model).
Upon inspection, the W204 with the manual transmission was repainted from both the sides, left and right. Fog lights were broken and car had a long list of errors. The other W204 was good but it also had long list of errors but the exterior was untouched. One of the E Class was a diesel, E220 CDI. It was a 2006 models but its condition was mouth watering. There was literally no evidence of the rear seats being used, even the front seats looked like that they just came out of the factory. The car was scratchless, no repaints, no accidents, proper Shahnawaz record and only 85,000 driven. It was in silver. We were about to buy the car when some people said that we shouldn't go for a diesel German car. The diesel here we have is of low quality (high sulfur content while these cars use low sulfur content diesel) and would destroy the injectors which would result in engine damage AKA time-wastage in workshops. We were very reluctant to drop off the car but we had to so we did. The other E Class was a 2003 model E200 with a panoramic roof. The only problem was with the maintenance so we knocked it off of our list. After having no luck with a good Merc C or E Class, we turned to other alternatives...
- BMW 7 Series.
- Mercedes Benz S Class W220.
- BMW 5 and 3 Series.
- Toyota Mark X.
The main problem with German saloons here in Pakistan is that most of them are either diesel or have been maintained at the hands of
local mechanics who have absolutely no idea what they're dealing with here. We checked almost every car at a dealer, showroom, individual owner etc... but every car had its share of cons. We test drove more than 20 Mark Xs lol
but none of them was in good nick or well kept.
In the end after lots of endless searching we found this C Class. It had a full Shahnawaz maintenance history, no errors, no repaints, no accidents etc.... The owner turned out to be a very nice person. He had another W203 C200 which was nicely kept.
