Mitsubishi Ek wagon Insane Fuel Consumption

Hi Brothers.

I have problem here might you guys find me a solution .

i bought a Mitsubishi EK Wgaon variant , EK Sports , its the turbocharged version of Ek wagon .

i already have a Reborn , the purpose of this car was mainly city driving , on Lahore roads .

i never count or calculate the average of my cars , and just fill up the fuel tank whenever its near empty and usually dont use trip meters . i was driving this car around 3-4 months , but it was noticed the the fuel consumption is high on this 660cc vs my 1800cc reborn .

So , last week i was going to Islamabad and though lets give this car a try . so the problem is , it uses 4500 Rs. petrol on One side , my 1800 cc reborn never goes above 3500 rs. that's the first time i calculated it.

the speed was 105 , the eco lite on meter was on mean i was on eco mode . i changed the air filter in Islamabad that maybe this was causing but still not , no difference on return , the petrol was exact 4500 rs.

i know that these cars don't really meant to be run as advised on 20 kmpl but at least it could have bee 15 or even 14 kpl on long run ,
but it is giving 9 kmpl ,

Please instead of blaming me for buy this car or blaming the people who made it or start fighting with others , I would like you guys to advise me , cause I know the makers didn't design this car to do 9 kmpl .

I always use Castrol Magnatec on My Reborn and on this car

Firstly please mention your cars model,mileage and a few basic details like when was the oil changed which oil are using ?

These turbocharged 660cc engines give a maximum of 10-11. If you wanted economy, you should've gone for the normal one.

^^ 95% of jdm cars have tempered metres , you cant say if its genuine or not .

In most cases JDM'S meters are tempered upon arriving/before coming to Pakistan....

small engine cars require a higher rpm to work - causing more fuel intake, worse when they are turbocharged. A bigger high torque engine running at lazy rpm will be more efficient than a small engine running formula 1 rpm.

dont take it as the last and final word, its only part of the equation.

The rest part is sorting out the engine tune.

I had Kept a Nissan Otti Same as Ek-Wagon non turbocharged it was a fuel drinker, another member over here bought an Ek-Wagon Sold it out due to its bad fuel average. This car is worst on fuel and quite slow. I think u should check the cat converter maybe it is choked.

Dear let me clarify you one thing being a car importer and user of all cars ...... please note the following
1. 660cc cars in automatic transmission will never give you more than 13-14 in city
2. secondly a turbocharged is a gas guzzler so reduce 2km/l on top of that so dont expect that your car will give more than 10km/l in any case so dont waste your money on changing things because thats normal.....

solution to the problem is first of all buy a non turbo car or buy atleast a 1300cc car which still gives you 13-14km/l in city. secondly if you want to restrict to 660 then search for a 5 speed automatic cvt transmission car with eco mode that will give you 14-16 km and around 20km on highway if driven under 90km per hour speed.

9 km/l on long route, its nightmare, must be something wrong, 660cc jdm owners can answer this, you can also go through daihatsu mira fan club, you can find many post regarding fuel consumption and remedies to consume less fuel.

nope the dealers do it after clearing the car from customs why would anyone reverse the meter abroad ?

Say you have a family friend/relative or a business partner in Japan and god knows what you 2 can be up to.

Smaller engines dont perform well when you drive them on the highways and you have a turbo charged one so expect lesser than what a N/A version would give (fuel economy) your car will give better fuel economy if you use it in city
Service your car according to the specs in the owners manual use recommended oil grade 5w-30/40 would be good and try to drive with a light foot

but mostly the case is our HAJI dealers do it so people can be proud of their brand new zero meter Japani car
a relative came from Punjab and bought a Suzuki kei the car was very clean and had 56k on the dial he asked the dealer to reverse the meter to zero which he did in a place behind his showroom

If yours is a 3 speed auto with no overdrive, chances are you would be doing something over 4500 rpm at 105-110 km/h. At that engine speed your turbo would be spinning continuously. ... throughout the journey.
I'd say, 9km/l is actually a very realistic average under the given circumstances. Nothing is wrong.

These kei cars are meant to be driven within city only and they perform optimally if you dont go over 50 km/h. Test your car in city with light foot never going over 50kmph. You'll notice the difference.

Anyway this is all based on the assumption that yours is a 3 speed auto. If its a 4 Speed auto or a 5 speed manual or a CVT then there might be something else wrong because in that case the average is too low.

these engines have a normal power curve at 4000-7000 rpm - due to their weak nature they are geared low for the engine to remain in the power band and keep the turbo in boost range in order to move the body the engine is trying to move.

As mentioned above - these cars are built to be driven in extreme traffic like in Tokyo - (tokyo is a permanent traffic jam). The Kei car segment is not the "holy grail" of cars our lovely dealers like to praise them for.
