Mines Japanese Tuning.

MINE'S is an automotive tuning company based in Yokosuka, Japan. MINE'S was started by Michizo Niikura, in 1985. They initially gained their popularity around 1988, by being among the first Japanese companies to sell re-programmed ECU systems for popular Japanese sportscars. Today they sell many products, ranging from Injectors to Complete Engines.
MINE'S currently makes software upgrades for hundreds of Japanese cars, but they only make hardware upgrades for a select few cars. They tend to concentrate on cars that have high potential, and good platforms to expand from. Their performance upgrades include (among other things) exhaust systems, engine computers, camshafts, suspension parts, brake systems, and lightweight body parts. Their body parts are almost always made of lightweight carbon fiber.

In 1997, Rev Speed magazine recorded a laptime of 59.1 seconds, in the MINE'S R32 Skyline GT-R.

A few months later they recorded a laptime of 59.8 seconds in the newer MINE'S R33 Skyline GT-R (this GT-R was heavier than the R32)

Later in 2002, Best Motoring recorded a laptime of 57.7 seconds in the MINE'S R34 Skyline GT-R demo car. For a comparison, the McLaren F1 does a lap on this track in 1:04 seconds.

Aside from the Skyline GT-R, MINE'S also develops upgrades for cars such as the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.
Using a HKS turbocharger, new ECU, exhaust system and some other parts, Mine's transform in a four door missile. After the successfull modification of the Nissan Skyline R33 and R34 (up to 630 PS), Mine's a best known japanese tuner develop a high performance kit for the Lancer Evolution VI.

Mine's Skyline GT-R V-Spec R34

Of Japan's best tuned Skylines is this Mine's V-Spec N1. It's been tuned, not so much for show, as much as to lap Japan's tracks as fast as possible. It was made famous after an appearance on Best Motoring where 'drift king' Keiichi Tsuchiya and Manabu Orido did some hot laps in the car and where surprised by its raw power and responsive handling.
Before the test, Michizo Niikura from Mine's compared this Skyline to the subtle tuning they've performed in the past and explained, unlike before, that the engine had been extensively tuned. But despite the huge increase in power - nearly double - Niikura said that the main focus of the car, like earlier ones, was on ''balance and response''.
In the almost stock looking bay, the engine retains its factory pistons, but uses new high-lift camshafts and two HKS GT2530 Turbos to produce over 600 bhp. Accordingly, the whole intake and exhaust systems are revamped, as is the engine electronics.
To keep all this power in check a 'Mine's Force' suspension is installed which includes a 3-way adjustable damping system and Mine's anti-roll bar. Braking is by enhanced with larger discs that sit behind Mine's 18 inch magnesium wheels.
Outwardy the Mine's Skyline is different, with many pieces crafted in carbon fiber such as a rear wing, front diffuser, side skirts and radiator shroud that all make this car distinct.
During their tests, Tsuchiya and Orido were taken with the performance of this Skyline, and if the rpm gauge was any indication, this is one of the fastest ever made for the road. They said ''it's so fast that even a dead man will scream.''

The Fairlady Z being among the only non-turbocharged vehicles they develop for. While most tuners in Japan turbocharge the Fairlady Z to increase power, the MINE'S Fairlady demo car remains naturally aspirated, and makes 350ps. The demo car runs what Mine's calls their "Stage II" engine, which pushes power to 320 ps at 6,540 rpm and torque to a very impressive 40.9 kgm at 4,500 rpm.

Over the years MINE'S has competed in many magazine track battles. Japanese magazines such as Option and Rev Speed frequently put demo cars from some of the top tuning companies in Japan against each other in a battle for fastest laptime on a given track. MINE'S tends to perform best on the famous Tsukuba track.
When modifying a car, MINE'S tries to focus mainly on the performance aspects of the vehicle. They tend to stay away from the styling and decorative side of the tuning industry. MINE'S CEO and founder Michizo Niikura, said in a 2002 Best Motoring interview, "If we try to do too many things, we will lose focus as a company". Although their demo cars are never without a bit of style, they say they want their customers to be able to choose their own style. They would rather let the performance of their cars speak for their company.
