Mclaren has been dominating the supercar scene as of late. The Mclaren 720s has been hailed as probably the best and most well-rounded supercar of all time! You just can't get anything for that price that accelerates like a fighter jet, destroys almost everything on the track, but then provides a comfortable and serene experience on your long drive home. Even at the very high end with their new hypercar the Senna, it has completely destroyed expectations of automotive journalists around the world with its super lightweight construction, incredible handling dynamics and sheer brute force at making its way around race tracks in record time. Now joining Mclaren's lineup is something from their sports series lineup. Mclaren has taken the 570s and spruced it up to create the 600LT.
The Mclaren 600LT is the lightweight track-focused version of the sports series, much like how the 675LT was the track-focused version of the 650S. The LT in the name, for those who don't know, stands for "Longtail". This is a homage to the 1997 Mclaren F1 GTR Longtail that competed in the FIA GT championship. The bodywork of the F1 Longtail had been stretched and smoothed out in an attempt to both decrease drag but at the same time increase downforce. It may not have been the fastest car of its time, but it cemented itself as one of the best cars ever made. And that is the reason why Mclaren uses the LT title in its modern-day track-focused road cars.

So if you were thinking the 600LT is also going to be longer than the supercar on which it's based then you're sadly mistaken. It's only about 3 inches or so longer than a 570s, and that is all thanks to a larger rear bumper and brand new fixed wing. Looking around the Mclaren 600LT, it is obvious to see Mclaren has added a lot of racing bits to the 600LT to set it apart from the regular 570s. Around the frontend, we get a more aggressive front bumper with a larger front splitter. Move around the side and there are some brand new fins to help redirect the airflow. Around the rear, we get a much larger rear diffuser and a pretty tastefully done fixed rear wing. But the biggest and most prominent difference has to be the top mounted exhausts. The exhausts point toward the sky and are placed on the rear deck lid of the Mclaren 600LT just like they are in the Porsche 918 Spyder. Not only does it look absolutely fantastic, but it also means you will be able to hear that glorious 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 even better now.
Speaking of the powerplant, the Mclaren 600LT features the same 3.8 twin-turbo V8 we find in the sports series lineup. But Mclaren has worked its magic with, and it now produces 592bhp and 457 lb-ft of torque. This in addition to the 600LT being a whole 211 pounds lighter than the 570S should make for some great performance numbers. You can make the 600LT even lighter still with optional features such as a carbon fibre roof, carbon fibre bucket seats straight out of a Mclaren Senna as well as vented carbon fibre fenders. Mclaren promises quicker steering, sharpened response from the throttle and brake pedals in addition to significantly stiffer engine mounts. All this should allow the 600LT to corner much harder and faster than the 570s.
Move inside the Mclaren 600LT, and the first thing that will catch your eye is the racing bucket seats, while they do look extremely uncomfortable, they will allow you to stay in place as you corner around a tight bend. Everything is now also wrapped in lighter Alcantara rather than leather. Production of the Mclaren 600LT will be extremely limited just like the 675LT which was limited to 500 units apiece for the hardtop and Spyder variants. It's still unclear as to how much the 600LT will command a premium over the 570S but expect it to exceed the $200,000 mark.
