Aoa,
We own a Suzuki Mehran 2006 model. As we all know it's suspension is hard or gets hard after a couple of years. I found that the suspension gives comparatively good output if it gets somehow lubricated. For example, I am a pretty much car of a car detailing freak, so I look forward for a gud final touch, with minimum goofs.Back in 2011, after a long period of using the dirty car, and corresponding dirty suspension full of mud, I washed the car and also sprayed pressurized water at the underneath, as enough I felt and after that I took a ride in the car.I felt the car to be pretty much soft as compared to what was it before. I must mention that we got the tyre pressure checked at the nearest petrol pump, so it remained one of the causes which kind of opposed my thought that the suspension might has undergone a lubrication by water.
But after several times I intentionally sprayed water underneath, especially the suspension parts, to lubricate them and mostly felt the car to be softer than before. I noticed that the process only works if the suspension is dirty enough to contain dirt deposits at its suspension parts and when the water is not pressurized enough to wash all of it. I believe that the water creates some kind of viscous fluid when it combines with dirt and, due to little bit pressure by a pipe, accumulates in the joints or moving parts. After browsing the internet, I found that there exist a term known as 'Suspension lubrication.' which basically serves to reduce suspension noises but also for increasing the functionality of the suspension.
I read about the use of grease in the lubrication, but I remember reading something opposing the idea of lubrication for every car. Furthermore, the owner's manual of Mehran also does not mentions the suspension lubrication.
I came up with the thread because after the service station car wash of our Mehran yesterday, I found the ride to be much harder than before. I believe that the lubrication offered by the mud deposit in the suspension was washed away by the pressurized stream.
Repeating that I intentionally used water stream to lubricate the suspension and correspondingly got a softer ride, my question is that should we lubricate suspensions for a better(emphasis on softness) ride ?
