Legal Implications of an Engine Swap

Hi There

Can anyone please tell me what are the legal implications involved in car conversions? i.e. Engine swaps, color change of car.. etc.etc. as now there are these new computerised # plates which store the above said info of the car on the RIFD chip. So for example, imagine the look on the face of the cops when their chip reading devices telling them they are looking at an Suzuki FX when they are really looking at an Enzo Ferrari!!LOL

Any info would be appreciated specially from people who have done conversions themselves. Thanks.

rs 200 to get new engine number entered in registeration book. and to avoid queues add some more as commission of agent and you are done.
to update record is their responsiblity you get a stamped proof of engine change on ur registeration book.

Go to MRA (Motor Registeration authority) when u will enter building alot of agents would be eager to help u out
talk with one . get it done in 200rs

if he ask extra make sure you get ur registeration book back by today. check the clerk's stamp and signature
if you want a perfect thing it will cost u a lil higher. for this dont enter the are of building keep moving on the road
if you have entered from the side of govt poly technic institute for girls or jain mandier then keep moving straight till the
other end of same road u will find a shop on left side of road of some lawyers, they are good agents, they charge slightly high
but reliable and their work is fine.

Getting the registration book updated with engine number might not be a problem but the main legal implication is the change in road tax.
If you have swapped your engine with a higher cc engine then you have to pay the road tax according to the new engine specs.

when u give registeration book for token he checks for the cc and previous amount of token paid.
he justifies it to the current payable and mention.
its nothing to do with legal, or you dont need to go to some govt office, the postal office man will ask the exact amount.

i use to pay 405 rs for 87 charade and 550 for 85 charade. now guess what was the reason. both were having same engine 1000cc.

87 was standard and 85 one was 98 quota and car with quota has more token to pay ye bhi aik science hai

i almost got all info i requred through this thread, plz confirm that i only need purchase receipt of new engine to have my reg. book updated from ETO office???
secondly is there any difference in token charges in punjab of cars older than ten years???

Don't forget that an engine swap, even with an exactly similar one would direly affect the resale of your car...strange, but that's how it is in Pakistan.

Therefore, 80% of the swaps in Pakistan go unregistered - people get the old engine number punched on the new engine.

It is illegal....if caught ofcourse...which people claim to be absolutely impossible unless someone is really after you.

i got car in my own name, wanna keep it for some thing like 5-7 more years, its time for engine overhaul, what should i go for aftre a swap with same engine, should i re enter on reg. book or have it repunched, resale wala rola nahi hai mujhee???????

@mahmood....its ur own choice...there are pppl who are happy to do 2 numberi to get some profit but as u said kei aap ko koi resale ka masla nahin hai then u can get the engine swapped and then get the number changed on book........

btw if u want to swap the same engine then why dont u get it overhauled :S

What about the legality of shape conversions?

I've seen civics converted to look like acuras, do they get something changed in the registration book?

What happens when a tulla stops and checks a car which is registered as a civic but doesn't look like one? Any idea?

If engine is swaped by engine of same cc or lesser cc,is there no problem.for example 800 cc old carbeurated mehran engine replaced by same 800 cc euro 2 engine or by660 cc alto engine
