Kia Sportage: to buy or not to buy?

Hi everyone

I currently own GLI 2012. I am thinking of buying Sportage 2002/2004 for the change. Please advise about pro and cons of the sportage in terms of maintenance, reliability, fuel economy, comfort etc. I intend to use it mainly on M2 once in a month with odd trips from wah to pindi.

better keep ur corolla its much more reliable saying it after a brief research,once my dad was also in a mood of buying one and luckily we didnt buy one

Highly highly not recommended, i never own this but once planed to buy, but after deep discussion and thorough search, i found that it is a damn problematic SUV with no driving pleasure, no reliability, extremly expensive spare parts, cosmatic, engine and suspension all... with very mediocor type AC....only one rear light costs arou d 6000/- for all suspension work u need around 60k...etc

Last but not the least Re sale is almost Zero...Now a days people are avoiding such out of market and a flop SUV...

Here i am sure some of the members who own sportage will disagree with me, but honestly speaking i also wanted to have one, checked a number of sportages, but all were in a very bad shape and none was perfect, all have suspension prob, or engine mounts prob, heat up issue and play in steering was common in all of them.

Thanks God i didnt buy sportage.

If you really intend to buy one just make sure that you buy an extremely well maintained one. Its like a mini SUV. Does not have all the features you expect from a vehicle that big in size. Average Drive, Very low class interior, some-how fine suspension and a diesel guzzling engine, Very high maintenance cost, rare availability of spares and if it breaks down god forbid you wont find anything in rural areas even in small cities.

If you want to enjoy SUV then buy Mitsubishi Pajero 1994 onwards model.

Most of all, 2002 to 2004 models had one chronic issue - which was of Engine heating up! I had kept sportage in 2006/2007 and had a lot of technical discussion with Kia staff and we finally deduced the core reason being its undersized radiator. 2005 onwards models had the issue resolved.

My bottom line advice: Do not buy this vehicle. Period.
