I have an account with shipito.com47 and am planning to use their services to ship a few electronics (soundbar and home speakers) from USA to Pakistan. The rates offered are satisfactory (about $90 for a 10kg package via DHL to Pakistan) but I am worried about custom duty and taxes when imported to Pakistan. I will most probably use DHL for shipping and get the package marked as a gift. Any idea on how to get taxes reduced bypassed?

Any valuable feedback appreciated.

~20% or nothing IF you are lucky. Try to get the items under-invoiced as much as possible (realistically), that would also help greaty.

Ahh, sorry.

P.S. @OP, some electronic items are exempt from duty. Laptops I know to be. Not sure about many other items, though.

each and every item has diffrent ratio of duty and taxes from 40% to 70% ....... invoicing is not illegle coz customs promote it by taxing system ..... if u will not then u cant sell it in market .......and customs are promoting it by the using of law 25a of the custom act 1969 ....

What if I get the items not in original packing and declare it as a gift while shipping? The item is a soundbar.

Declaring as gift is very commonly done. Removing from original packing could very well help - you could even go as far as gift wrapping the item

Marking it as gift will not help you evade duties. CD on speakers is 20% + you will need to pay 17% sales tax and I think there is a FED of 5%. So in total you will need to pay about 40% of the assessed value.

Thanks, how do they asses values? I got a refurbished audio system for $150 and it's valued at $600. Any idea how they asses values?

utrade.co - is website for tarrif and classification.

The value assessment depend on 'domestic situation' of the appraising babu, if he is in right mindset the condition of item can be translated to NEW or USED and depreciation will apply, if he suffered bad at home he can mark a scarp metal as new. - the discretion can be challenged if proof of purchase with model year is available.

or you can use sweet talk ( read cash ) to get assessment of value & duty classification suitable to your pocket.
