dear pakwheelers,

assalamoalaikum,

i wanted to ask you guys how much would it cost to change the manual gearbox with a automatic gearbox for a HONDA Civic VTi 2000, i want the original automatic gearbox of HONDA Civic VTi 2000. how much would it cost, from where can i find this, who would be the best mechanic to do this in Karachi. shall be looking forward for sensible replies. much thanks !

from auto to manual cost Rs. 60k of 02-05 model.

manual to auto may cost less cuz there wud be many part u ll be giving away. like clutch mechanism. gearbox itsel. etc etc. so maybe around 40k. but why do u want do that?

as an engineer i wud tell u that fitting of such things require quite precision in work which u cannot get from any workshop. cuz they cannot think what slight misalignments in components can lead to.

so my advice is do not go for it. hondas auto transmissions often fail and their overhauling cost a lot.

8 months ago i converted from auto to manual in my 97 vti. got it done from lahore bilal gunj from a nice champ and now good friend of mine.
it costed me around 28 k (auto trans traded IN) total including labour and all, and any how i managed to get some special pc.

we got that M/T from a d15 engine of a vti 1996 japanese assembly. after swapping; my engine check light got ON and then i got that problem solved too from a very nice electrician "" Ali "" in Bilal gunj who is expert in sloving any ecu issues.

from 8 months i have literally banged my car and had a couple of races to and enjoyed pure japanese technology at max.

I agree with retaliator 100%.. I would add however that Honda 3S dealers do have the expertise to get the job done. HOwever, i am also of the opinion to sell the car and buy an auto

i just wanted topic poster to know the facts which i have experienced. just wanted him to convey the message that converting from auto to manual and manual to auto is not a big deal, unless ur car is in proper hands and if one v'e got some good knowledge of engine stuff.

Don't forget to change the ECU if you switch to auto.
