Honda Civic Reborn Catalytic Converter Broken

My Honda Civic 2008 (reborn) catalytic converter got broken and giving a rattling noise. The new one costs more than 1 lakh, bilal gunj one is costing 50K which is also not in my budget. I understand that catalytic converters are very important for environment and our future generations but can't spend 50k right now on a car of value 1.4 to 1.5 million maximum. The mechanic is saying to get the broken honeycomb removed and go for a mesh instead which will muffle the sound. Can someone guide if this solution has any disadvantages other than environmental factors? I honestly am not in a position to get a new CC installed due to its higher price.

If you are not putting a replacement converters than you can either go for a mesh or just get it removed altogether. There is no downside to car performance without catalytic converter. All you are gonna get is a check engine light.

I already checked with them. They quoted me 50K for a used kabli catalytic converter. The new ones (Chinese) are just rip offs.

The process of CAT con removal is sometimes referred to as "Gutting the CAT". The phrase is common with people seeking a high flow exhaust with low restriction.
Ideally, you should not install a mesh if you are removing a CAT altogether to get better exhaust flow.
on the other hand, CAT acts as a muffler too and when removed, you'll be exposed to raw engine sound which sounds cool for few moments but can cause a headache in longer run. So this Mesh acts as muffler to quieten down the engine revs.
apart from this, you'll get a check engine light regardless whether or not you chose to install a mesh. Lemme know if you are interested in removing a check engine light without a CAT.

yesterday catalytic converter honeycomb mesh broke in my reborn 2008 hardtop. I researched more and now i have four options and first two are not workable cost wise but I am listing all.

1. Get new from Honda which costs more than 1 lakhs.
2. Get a kabli which has no warranty and you dont know how it was used in the past and it will cost 50 to 60k.
3. Get a chinese copy/ replica/ rip off for 25 to 30k which probably will effect my fuel average and also i am not sure if it will clean the hazardous gases properly which is the basic function of a cc.
4. Get a metal mesh installed for around 10k to muffle the sound only. The cat converter functions will be gone.

Again as I mentioned above, i cannot spend 50k to 100k on a car worth 1.4 million and I also dont have a budget for that right now. I am only left with the option number 3 and 4.

What do you guys recommend? Is mesh installation (desi jugaar) ok if I want to keep this car with me for another 3 to 4 years. Its currently 95K on odo and i got the suspension replaced (new).

So for anyone having this catalytic issue, I have done very extensive research and here is my experience:
Issue with broken honeycomb is getting warning on car ecu, fuel average and bad exhaust sound.
There are 4 fixes available, which are as follows:

1. Get new Honda Original Catalytic (40k - 100k)
2. Get Chine Replica Catalytic (15k-22k)
3. Get Local made honeycomb replacement, if only honeycomb is broken (6k-9k)
4. Get a metal mesh installed on exhaust pipe (1.5k-2k)

I have done research on all options and each has its own cost their respective pros and cons

• If you want to get full catalytic replaced (which is not needed if only honeycomb is broken) then cheaper option is kabli, and expensive is getting from honda, i got 40k rate from Cha sultan rawalpindi but Gawalmandi would be cheaper
• There is option of chinese replica which is around 20k, but after inspecting it thoroughly, i came to conclusion that body was repaired from original kabli and honeycomb was chines, but it was acceptable.
• The best option would be to get only pipe that contains honey comb, replaced, as you only need that, the rest will be the original you have, i got rate of 8k from cha sultan but from my experience gawalmandi would be better and cheaper
• I myself got the last option as i only wanted to get rid of sound, weirdly i am not getting any warning on dashboard and also dont get no error relating to O2 sensor on ECU as well, also my fuel average is 15 on long and almost 10 on city. I got the mesh from gawalmandi for 1500rs last year, but my estimation of current price would be 2000rs, but i am fully satisfied with this solution as this was cheapest and best for my requirements
