Hi Everyone,
Recently iv'e had a problem with my car 2006 civic (7th Gen.). It was working fine earlier and couple days ago while parking at home at night, i noticed battery light ON on the odometer. I checked the booklet and it said that means the battery is not charged or maybe the Generator is not working properly to charge the battery.
The next morning, i took the car to Honda Service Center and also noticed the battery light on (coming on and off randomly). I was late and they had about an hr left from closing time, they checked and told me that Generator is burned and would need replacement and that i should come tomorrow but also warned me that car can stop on your way back home and the guy also gave me his phone number in case i run into problem.
The worse happened and i called him, he came with another mechanic (both work at Honda sales) and they brought a spare battery so that i could restart and drive back home. There (at home), they removed the generator again, chekced and told me it would need replacement. The new one costs 56,000 PKR, while they told me an option would be to get a used on from Bilal GANJ MARKET. and that would cost around 12K.
I had no other option as i'd to travell outside soon so i agreed and asked them for replacement. They went and next mroning they brought a replacement generator plugged it in and took 11K after some bargaining.
Although i kept the original faulty generator with me. This is the first problem iv'e had since i bought this car. But i just want to know could the generator really burn. The car is being driven normally and not used so much (300-500Km/month).
Also, is the replacement price + service justified??
Here are some pictures of original Generator:
