Dear All,

Hope you will be fine and doing well. I am seeking your valuable advise for TIMING BELT & Bearing. My ODO meter is exactly 72300 KMS. Should I change the timing belt & bearing?. Is there any indication which car gives for its replacement? I have discussed it with my mechanic. He says there is need to change but in about 5k Kms.

And If I change it. What difference it will make to my car..?

What is the actual cost of this work, Including labour and Parts..?

Thanks & Waiting for your kind reply,

Best Regards,

Bilal Naeem

i can tell you the cost for my 96 civic..

the original timing belt cost me 2400rs. the tensioner bearing cost me 900rs. i replaced all the other belts as well.. i think about 300 each.

the recommended milage for timing belt change is 100,000 km. i changed mine at 167,000kms. which is NOT recomended.

labor will be about 1k.

all the belts have to come off. then the main pulley will come off. then tappet cover loosen and timing cover out. loosen the tensioner bearing.. slip off the old belt. DONOT move the crank and cam even slightly while doing that. slip on the new belt in the same position..

fit the new tensioner bearing.. but keep it loose. turn the crank a few times to ensure the belt is seated and then tighten the tensioner bearing.. fit every thing back and all done.

Thanks for your valueable comment. Does replacing this thing make any difference in drive??..

For a Civic 2003 . If you go a Honda 3S ..
Timing Belt= 4200
Bearing = 6000
Labour=3500

  • or minus a few hundreed. I don't remember the exact numbers but the whole thing cost me around 14K.

two days ago i changed bearing .. new jap bearing 3900 ,, china wala best quality 2000 , i Bought NTC original 3900 labor charges 400 btw i have honda civic 2003

7300 bearing 4200 belt and labour is 3500 to 4000 . calculate it. if u get it done from bilal gunj then bearing will be around 1500 belt will be near 1200 .

Alone bearing was not available i did complete hub replacement

Same i bought for 3900 it was exactly same as old one come off
and here is almost same available for 2000 china wala

this is a wheel hub bearing.. and it is replaced as a whole unit...

i believe the op was talking about timing belt and its bearing... not the wheel bearing..

no difference in drive.. but if the timing belt breaks than you have major massive engine repair bill... and considering how stupid our mechanics are.. you might as well swap the engine..

o got it n wow that expensive just a bearing

Yes dear i am talking about the Timing tension Bearing...

I know about this. But just wanted to know is it rite time to spend money on this. Is there anyway to check which condition it is on rite now...

Do Bilal Gunj bearing & belt works?

if i am not wrong, the timing belt is scheduled to be replaced between 80~100k kms.
If u intend to keep the car and the car is kept carefully then u may delay it till 100k kms.

But as there is no specific indicator for its actual condition, so better change it on time for peace of mind.

As for the price, i will see if i can find receipts for my car's timing belt etc....

yup thats the rate honda 3s quoted me for civic 05
belt 3800
bearing 6000
but is it necessary to change bearing with belt? they said normally it should be changed but that depends on the condition if it should be changed or not
n labout was for 3500

i was also wondering if it needs to be replaced or not, but i think the only way to check the belt is to open up all the stuff to see it physically then u might as well replace it

yeah you don't need to change the bearing with belt but for me the choice was either i pay 6000 now or pay 9000 (beariing + labour) . so its anybody's guess whether i saved 3000 or lost 6000

Yes bro i love my car.i will.never compromise on anything. Just the Q still in my mind. Whether now or later.... just this.
