As @Xulfiqar mentioned, the emphasis for the industry overall has shifted towards creature comforts, environment reg compliance, and other gimmicks that sell, not on vehicle longevity, design or reliability. Plastic parts, oil-immersed belts, etc.
A "disruptive" EV manufacturer is infamous for their terrible build quality. Toyota knows they'll be able to dress up a stock Fortuner in GR stickers and emblems and sell it for an additional Rs. 1,000,000 - with no GR performance upgrades. These companies know their markets quite well.
