I want to get a Honda City 2003-04 model as my first car inshAllah and need some suggestions regarding whether I should go for Auto or Manual Transmission. I have just started learning to drive and Auto transmission seems to be a better option to me purely because of convenience, but I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of Auto VS Manual transmission in this car to make a final decision.

Also, I don't have prior experience of maintaining a car so any tips will be very helpful. I would not like to visit a mechanic regularly so please guide me how I can ensure this.

Thanks!

Honda Atlas offered Vario transmission in Honda City 2004-2008 model. Well Vario doesn't enjoy good repute in Pakistani market due to its comparatively short life, complex system and incompatibility with CNG. So if you are looking forward to buy Honda City Automatic make sure it has never been converted to CNG and has low numbers on odo meter.

I have a vario
Its a decent car to drive
but a bit sluggish while accelerating
I kept it all on petrol
Never buy a cng one
Its a cvt btw :joy:
Goodluck :stuck_out_tongue:

Adding to Umar Azam s comments vario engines are cheap as compare to manual idsi. You can get good vario engine kabli for Rs 25k to 35k from junk yard if you wanna swap it later.

I would suggest you to go for idsi model. The reason behind is its transmission issues. You ll start experiencing a tickling and knocking sound if you wont go for transmission oil change on time (which is usually like 35000 to 40000 km) which normally people dont know about it. They probably feel its happening due to old fuel or clogging. Hioctane might play a role for an instance but not a solution. The problem is there is a belt and not a chain in transmission system of vario which after that particular kms. Start sliping due to its fricted spokes. Which happens mostly lack of maintenance and by changing it transmission oil by time. There is no any solution for this other than changing its gear. So for that cause specially i would suggest manual idsi model of city upto 2008
