Help required: Headlight bulbs of Honda Civic 8th gen Reborn

Hello All.. Assalamo Alaikum... I have a problem regarding the headlights of my car, 2010 model Honda Civic. Recently purchased this car and extremely disappointed with the lights.

The problem is, the low+ high beam is very very dim. The maximum throw is around 40 meters when on rural roads (high + low both). And in cities, the road is barely visible at a distance of 5 meter (on only low beam). I went for bulb check, alignment of headlights, fuse check everything. Everything is working fine but the low beam is extremely dim. My daily drive is in Islamabad/Pindi (pedestrians, animals etc) and it is almost impossible to go beyond 40 kmph at night time.

I have been searching Pakwheels + other indian and international forums for the last 2 months. But the more I searched, the more I got confused.

I am looking for a long range 100+ meter low beam, and a bright one. Because I dont want to hit any person or end up hitting a pothole at 100+ kmph on highways, as I use this car for Islamabad - Karachi tours . Furthermore, I also dont want to '' blind'' or inconvenience the incoming drivers.

Please suggest me what should I do. I have three options in mind.

1. Install a 4300 kelvin or lower temperature HID bulb in the low beam housing? Because I observed that the low beam bulb has a single filament and it's the housing that is designed to give low beam (I may be wrong - I am not so sure). So I thought I might use a yellowish-white or white HID in the low-beam housing and aim it a little higher for long distance.

If this can work, suggest me some good HID 9006 bulbs for this temperature range, and any shops in Islamabad.

1. HID Projector headlamps ? Too costly for me at the moment. But any suggestions will be much appreciated and will surely look into them once the budget permits. I read that they dont illuminate the road at a long distance on low beam. A pakwheeler had those on his Civic and the low beam was illuminating 70-80 meter. But due to sharp bright blue light and sudden cutoff, only the road was visible. Everything just beyond the road was dark. The contrast made it worse. I am looking for yellow or white light because it make road and roadside transition easy on the eyes.

2. Any good stock halogen lamps? I consulted some people and they said no stock bulb is going to work. Just HID in high beam will help you.

I rarely use high beam, so please kindly help me.

brother, first of all please carefully inspect the reflector housing of headlights, the reflector must be very clear shiny chrome colored, if you find it dull and a bit toward aluminium color, then you need to change the headlights, caz no matter wat you do it will not reflect adequate light on road.

if the plastic lense is yellowish, it wont matter alot, but the reflector is very important.

do u have information that whether previous owner isntalled HIDs in headlamps? if so then there are good chances of reflector damage.

after making sure about reflector, you can switch to Phillips Rally Lamps 9005/9006 both for low and hi beams.

stock bulbs are 55W for low and 60W for high beam, but Phillips Rally is 70W for Low and 100W for high beams, and it will satisfy your vision requirements.

now another question comes regarding any effect of the wiring or headlamp control assembly, well according to my experience stock wiring and head lamps can sustain this change is wattage very easily, however on the safer side you can installed relay kit easily available in market to safe guard the wiring and for headlamp protection, donot use hi/low beams together for long period of time to avoid excessive heat.

Thank You for a detailed reply.. The headlights are in pristine condition. So I think I should search for Phillips Rally Lamps.

I think he did not install any HIDs because I had my car inspected and the mechanics said the headlights are in good condition.

Hey!!! So what did you do? Got the phillips rally bulb? I have the same issue as yours. My lights are really and I can barely see anything

Well Sorry bhai I dont remember what brand of bulbs I chose Lekin ,
1. Allignment of headlights. it was out and with passengers in the car, the low beam was towards the sky.
So I think with empty car, allign headlight in such way that the light beam reach roughly 50m clearly and 60 meters should be visible. Slightly lower angle...
2. I dont remember, but I think i got slightly higher wattage bulbs compared to stock. (60? perhaps). So Please consult a proper mechanic for this wattage issue, because your wiring etc can get damaged..
3. You will need high beam on unfamiliar roads.

Now that I drive mostly on familiar roads + Motorway, so dont pay attention to headlight much. But for rural area trip ( Punjab side rural roads), it is possible to drive at 70 80kmhr with 100 meter high beam visibility. Good Luck
