Fuel Tank

I have a question relating to fuel tank design whether it be cg 125 or cd70.

Now we all know the design of the fuel tank right....the pic below is an example fuel cork in on the left side and there are two longitudinal lobes with the hump in the middle.

Now when at a fuel station the filler has two choices whether he can approach from the right side and fill the tank lobe on the left or vice versa.

My question is

Wouldn't there be always petrol on the right side ?? :S

Should we always tell the filler to fill the petrol from the right side into the left lobe (which has fuel cork) so that we get proper mileage ???

ok when the tank is filled i realize that both sides would be filled but normally shouldn't be always put petrol on the left side ??

I have seen it myself that even when the reserve gets completely drained there is still some petrol (unknown quantity) in the right side of the tank which is almost impossible to extract unless you detach the tank and flip it a number of times. So basically that petrol is useless in daily riding.

Wouldn't that petrol just lying there uselessly result in the development of rust ??? :o

Do both sides hold equal amount of petrol ??

WOW what an observation/question...never thought about it. But the designer of the tank can never leave such a flaw while designing; am i right?

then lay the down bike sideways to get couple of ml of fuel for a km or 2 extra ride

I believe there is a narrow passage for flow of petrol at the side tank is fitted with seat, and petrol can flow in either direction of the tank through this passage during riding / minor jumps...may be!

Yes there is narrow passage of fuel from back to pass each ways.

I personally have drained cd 70. Cg 125 and delux honda while loading them to another city. So just by draining while the bike is standing, not tilting the bike to left side, i completely drained the tanks.

And the model tank you posted, is not of honda Atlas of Pakistan.

I maybe wrong due to not knowing the conditions of every tank model available in Pakistan.

But thats my observation and experience. Good luck

Yes you are right there is a passage in the back and that is the reason the tank is tilted towards the back side.

The tank which i posted is not from a pakistani site but the design is same...atlas honda one is one no different.

No you cannot drain the entire tank just by fuel cork as there will always be some fuel left towards right side. (My personal observation for both CD and CG).
